Karen Wrighton
Bestselling Young Adult Author An established British Author, Karen Wrighton is an Amazon bestselling author of books for teenagers and for adults with teenage hearts. Karen's books are a blend of everything she loves to read - tales of Magic, Mystery, and Mayhem! Most of Karen's work falls under the broad umbrella of Speculative Fiction, a genre of fiction that involves supernatural, futuristic, or other imagined elements. This encompasses the traditional genres of Fantasy, Science Fiction, Horror, Supernatural Fiction and Science Fantasy. This eclectic genre provides Karen with the flexibility to write stories which, appear to be very different from one other, yet maintain that 'other worldly' element which characterizes her work. Karen’s début novel ASCENSION OF THE WHYTE became an Amazon Bestseller, as did the second in the series RYTE OF PASSAGE. The Afterland Chronicles series, described as Lord of the Rings meets Harry Potter, will be completed in 2017 with the release of ICE AND FYRE, the third book in the series. Karen’s Post-Apocalyptic, Dystopian novel, THE LAST GIRL GUIDE, also won high praise. Breaking with the current trend for ‘Zombie’ Apocalypse books, the novel has been favorably compared to similar works of speculative fiction such as ‘The Road’ and ‘The Girl With All The Gifts’. Karen has two daughters and lives in a small cottage in rural Norfolk, England with her husband John, crazy dog Jinks, and Pippin, their remarkably lazy cat. Molly Midnight and the Little People - Karen Wrighton
Molly’s Secret
Molly Midnight has a secret. In fact, Molly has a lot of secrets. One secret is that Molly’s family are more than a little bit different to everyone else’s .
The Midnights’ family tree goes back hundreds of years, to a time when magic and sorcery were considered quite common - though not exactly desirable. Molly’s ancestors were driven from their homes by evil witch hunters, and they were hunted until very few Midnights’
were
left
.
Molly’s CatToday, all that remains of Molly's family is Molly, her little brother Michael, Nanny Mo (short for Maureen), her Mother Mary and Father Max or Maximilian (as Molly's mother calls him when he is in trouble). Oh, I almost forgot Merlin, their mischievous cat. No self-respecting family of witches would ever be complete without a
black
cat
.
If you have been paying attention, you may have noticed that the Midnight family like names beginning with the letter M. Maybe you are also smart enough to work out why that
might
be
?
M is the first letter in the word 'Magic' and it has long been the custom for witches to give their children names beginning with the letter M. The Midnights’ have followed this tradition for centuries, in fact, no Midnight has ever even married anyone whose name didn’t start with the
letter
M
.
Don’t get me wrong, Molly and her family do not consider themselves to be witches - not anymore. There are no witches, in the traditional sense these days. Molly’s ancestors stopped using magic when they were being persecuted by the witch hunters in 1647, which is a very long time ago. Since then there has been no one to teach the Midnights’ how to do magic. Not even Nanny Mo
knows
how
.
SockMolly sometimes wished she could do magic, and she asked Nanny Mo on many occasions if she could teach her even one little spell. Molly thought that if anyone in her family could show her some magic, it would be Nanny Mo. That is because Molly's Nanny is so old that she has curly whiskers on her chin, wispy white hair that sticks out like the fluffy seeds of a dandelion clock and more wrinkles than Molly’s stripy socks (the ones that Molly’s mom said should have been put in the bin
years
ago
).
GrandmaBut Nanny Mo would just sigh and say, Why on earth would you want to do magic, my dear? Magic has brought nothing but trouble to us Midnights'.
So, being from a family of ancient witches is
