I did my student-teaching at an inner city high school in Flint, Michigan. After I did some substituting in the same building, I was flabbergasted when during the last week of school the young single mothers dressed up their babies and brought them to school. Having at baby at the time, 1986, was thought to be a status symbol.

I was a single mom at the time. My daughter was in fourth grade and I didn’t understand the concept of babies being status symbols. It was as if these young girls thought they had to prove they were women.

Well, it’s now 2017 and it frightens me to hear the young girls talking about having babies. They have no clue what they are in for. I do and I wasn’t a teen when I had my daughter.

This book does not discuss sex or the precautions one should take to have safe sex. This is a book about some of the things which can happen to you when you get pregnant and are single. It’s all about the things you won’t find in those beautiful baby books. Those might be able to tell you what to expect physically and I’ll leave it to them. This book will tell you some of the emotional upheavals you might face, some of the stress you might come under, and will ask you some very serious questions.

If you are even thinking about having a baby and you are still in high school or just out of high school, please read this book. Listen to the stories of the moms I talked with. Is this where you really want to end up? Is this the future you have planned? Wouldn’t it be better to wait until you are married and have a stable home to provide?

So, you think you want to be a mom. The first thing you should consider is; does your boyfriend want to be a dad? Are you old enough to get married in your state? Have you discussed children? Do you feel like this is the only thing which will keep you together? Is he pressuring you for sex? Have you talked about STDs? Have you talked about what will happen if you do get pregnant? Are either of you working? Are you finished with school?

Still think you want to be a mom? Well, let me tell you all the things you won’t read in a baby book. Starting with you will now be taking on a full-time 24/7 job. Do you realize this job is for life? It doesn’t stop just because you get bored. It continues until you die. How old are you? If you are sixteen, you are looking at approximately sixty years on the job and there is NO
