    Teddy Brinker and Tommy Huff were the best of friends. They lived about five houses apart on the same street. On any given day they would be at one or the other’s homes. Teddy the husky, dark haired, dark eyed twelve-year-old was a sharp contrast to Tommy’s blond hair, blue eyes, and lanky frame. If you found one, you found the other.

    At Halloween Tommy had managed to prove to Teddy there were no such thing as ghosts. Now as Christmas neared, he was on a mission to prove Santa was real. Teddy on the other hand saw this as a chance to win back the five dollars he’d lost betting on ghosts at Halloween.

    Dude, you’re almost thirteen, Teddy started, How is it you don’t know Santa is just your parents?

    Because he’s not my parents, Tommy said with exasperation for the umpteenth time. Santa is one person. My parents are two people. I’d know if two people were walking around in my house at night.

    Are you trying to tell me you’ve heard Santa? Teddy was incredulous.

    You don’t hear Santa, Tommy assured him. He’s quite as a mouse when he comes into your house.

    Teddy pondered this for a moment, You don’t hear him, and you’ve never seen him, how do you know he’s real?
