About this ebook

Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention on the present mental and physical health.
When a person is mindful, he or she observes the thoughts and symptoms from a distance, without judging them good or bad.
Instead of letting the life pass the person by, mindfulness means living in the moment and awakening to experience.
It can be easy to rush through life without stopping to notice much.
Paying more attention to the present moment to the person’s thoughts and sensations, and to the world around the person can improve the mental and physical well being.
Some people call this awareness "mindfulness".
Mindfulness can help people enjoy life more and understand their mind and body better.
The Four Foundations of Mindfulness are key things that people should practice being mindful of.
1. The bodies,
2. The feelings,
3. The minds themselves, and
4. The phenomena or the world around them.
Medical psychology and psychiatry have developed a number of therapeutic applications based on mindfulness for helping people who are experiencing a variety of psychological conditions.
Mindfulness practice is being used in psychology to alleviate a variety of mental and physical disorders, such as bringing about:
1. Reductions in depression symptoms,
2. Reducing stress and anxiety and
3. The treatment of drug addiction.
Recent studies reveal that mindfulness meditation significantly alleviates pain through multiple, unique mechanisms.
Mindfulness also permits people to become more aware of the stream of thoughts and feelings that they feel, and to see how they can become entangled in the ways that are not helpful.
The mindfulness allows them stand back from their thoughts and start to see their patterns.
Generally, people can educate themselves to notice when their thoughts are taking over and realize that thoughts are simply mental events that do not have to affect them.
How to be more mindful:
Observe the everyday
Make it regular
Attempt something new
Forget the worries
Give names to thoughts and feelings
Get themselves away from the past and future
How Mindfulness Can Help the Health:
Mindfulness, the art of being fully present in the moment, may give the mind and the body a boost.
There is consistent evidence that mindfulness reduces stress, depression, and anxiety, and that flows into other things
Recent neurobiological studies have shown that learning mindfulness produces significant changes in brain structure and function associated with self-regulation, learning, memory, emotional regulation, perspective, and self-referential processing.
Other conditions helped by mindfulness are:
1.Chronic pain,
2.Cancer,
3.Grieving,
4.Insomnia,
5.Irritable bowel syndrome,
6.Depression,
The benefits of mindfulness
1. It can better the test scores and working memory -- the type of memory used to do a math problem in the head.
2. It may help improve depression, anxiety, and sleep quality, too.
3. Mindful people might have lower blood pressure, lower blood sugar, and better heart health.
4. People who got a flu vaccine after 8 weeks of mindfulness training developed more antibodies against the flu than those who only got the vaccine.
5. It may relieve symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome and cut down on migraines, too.
6. It could also ease pain or at least the perception of it.
Mindfulness Practice:
Posture: sit straight
Gaze: look down
Breath: natural breathing in and out
Thoughts: honest thoughts
A practitioner has, playfully, placed the practice down to:
1. Sit Down,
2. Shut Up, and
3. Pay Attention
Adverse Side Effects:
Depersonalization
Psychosis
Anxiety
Higher risk of seizure
The doctor should take note of all these when advising mindfulness.

    Introduction

I have been writing medical articles for my blog http://kennethkee.blogspot.com (A Simple Guide to Medical Condition) for the benefit of my patients since 2007.

My purpose in writing these simple guides was for the health education of my patients.

Health Education was also my dissertation for my Ph.D (Healthcare Administration).

I then wrote an autobiolographical account of his journey as a medical student to family doctor on his other blog http://afamilydoctorstale.blogspot.com.

This autobiolographical account A Family Doctor’s Tale was combined with my early A Simple Guide to Medical Conditions into a new Wordpress Blog A Family Doctor’s Tale on http://kenkee481.wordpress.com.

From which many free articles from the blog was taken and put together into 800 amazon kindle books and 200 into Smashwords.com eBooks.

Some people have complained that the simple guides are too simple.

For their information they are made simple in order to educate the patients.

The later books go into more details of medical conditions.

The first chapter is always from my earlier blogs which unfortunately tends to have typos and spelling mistakes.

Since 2013, I have tried to improve my spelling and writing.

As I tried to bring you the latest information about a condition or illness by reading the latest journals both online and offline, I find that I am learning more and improving on my own medical knowledge in diagnosis and treatment for my patients.

Just by writing all these simple guides I find that I have learned a lot from your reviews (good or bad), criticism and advice.

I am sorry for the repetitions in these simple guides as the second chapters onwards have new information as compared to my first chapter taken from my blog.

I also find repetition definitely help me and maybe some readers to remember the facts in the books more easily.

I apologize if these repetitions are irritating to some readers.

    What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention on the present mental and physical health.

When a person is mindful, he or she observes the thoughts and symptoms from a distance, without judging them good or bad.

Instead of letting the life pass the person by, mindfulness means living in the moment and awakening to experience.

It can be easy to rush through life without stopping to notice much.

Paying more attention to the present moment to the person’s thoughts and sensations, and to the world around the person can improve the mental and physical well being.

Some people call this awareness mindfulness.

Mindfulness can help people enjoy life more and understand their mind and body better.

Mindfulness indicates the psychological procedure of bringing one's feeling to the internal experiences happening at the present moment, which can be developed through the practice of meditation and other training

The person can take steps to form it in his or her life.

It is easy to stop observing the world around the person.

It is also easy to lose touch with the way the bodies are feeling and to end up more in thinking about the mind without stopping to notice how those thoughts are affecting the emotions and behavior

An essential part of mindfulness is reconnecting with the bodies and the sensations they feel.

This means feeling and knowing the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of the present moment.

The feeling might be something as simple as the feel of a banister as people walk upstairs.

Another essential part of mindfulness is being aware of the thoughts and feelings as they happen moment to moment.

It is about permitting themselves to see the present moment clearly.

When people do that, it can positively alter the way they see themselves and their lives

What are the Four Foundations of Mindfulness?

The Four Foundations of Mindfulness are key things that people should practice being mindful of.

    These are:

    1. The bodies,

    2. The feelings,

    3. The minds themselves, and

    4. The phenomena or the world around them.

By training in these four foundations of mindfulness, people can observe increasingly how all of these things really are, outside from their conceptual ideas of them

Training in the four foundations of mindfulness is training in seeing reality with more clarity and equanimity.

    Different mindfulness practices

Besides practicing mindfulness in daily life, it can be useful to set aside time
