About this ebook

Many leaders in the Scouting movement are discouraged by their Scouts' lack of interest in the outdoors. Is the big attraction of camping a thing of the past? Has the wilderness lost its relevance in today's modern age? No, it hasn't, but if the art of camping is to survive for the next generation, we've got to rediscover real Scout camping. You CAN recover the magic of the outdoors for your Scouts. This book is an honest look at why Scouts are bored with camping trips and practical ways to make camping fun.

    About the Author

    Chapter 1: Introduction

It was a much anticipated Scout camping trip. We were going to see some spectacular canyons out in West Texas. The weather was beautiful, and everything was just right. Instead of brimming with excitement about the breath-taking views around us, the Scouts eschewed hiking in favor of hanging around camp. The highlight of the camp for them, it seemed, was spending half a day playing sand games in a dry creek bed.
