Curse Of A Hearts Rage - Jacqueline Steel
Chapter one
––––––––
She was there. Her body was walking towards him, looking like she had the very last time he had seen her. Dracula closed his eyes, in the hope that when he opened them she would be gone. Only she wasn’t. Of course, she wasn’t. It was all his fault she was dead. If he’d been there, he would have been able to protect her from what happened, but he wasn’t there. Instead he was dealing with the realization she was truly, truly gone. He was never going to see her again. The only woman he could ever imagine loving was dead, because of him, and he didn’t know how to deal with it. Raking a hand through his hair he stared at her, wishing he could see her face instead of just that body.
Closing his eyes, he focused on her, seeing the time before he left. His beautiful Jusztina. When he opened them again her body was still there, tormenting him. Showing him that he would never be able to remember the way she was before. Or Vlad. Both tortured by beings that shouldn’t be called humans. No human should be able to do that to a little boy, but they had. They’d taken two of the most precious people in the world from him and he was going to make them pay for that. He was going to make the Sultan pay, only he wasn’t entirely sure how he was going to make that happen.
I will help you.
That voice was still there, even though he’d thought it would be gone when he woke.
Why would you think that? I am a part of you now, and you’re a part of me. Together we will make the Sultan pay for what he did. The voice was full of Dracula’s own anger. You and I will make sure he’ll never be able to hurt anyone again. That he will pay for the horrible loss he caused us.
The noise dragged Dracula’s mind away from the conversation he was having with himself. It sounded like someone coming towards the cave, and that was not a good thing. With the sound came the scent of blood, and death, and so many other things he didn’t want to think about again. Raking a hand through his hair he tried to hide himself deep in the shadows, not wanting to do anything he might later regret.
My Lord?
The voice was one he recognized, although Dracula couldn’t work out exactly who it was. His mind was purely on the scent of blood. Blood that was making his mouth water. How was that even possible? I was sent to look for you, my Lord. You are needed at the village.
You should feed.
Feed? Dracula marveled at the word, the feelings inside of him... before he’d been able to control his emotions. Maybe it had something to do with whatever it was that was sharing his body. He knew he was going mad as he slipped into the delusion something was talking to him in his head.
No, my friend, this is entirely due to what happened to you. Finding Jusztina like that... it broke you. Considering what you’d already been through I’m surprised you didn’t break before.
All Dracula could think was that he wasn’t broken. He’d never been broken by anyone, and the
