    INTRODUCTION

    Matthew 28:18-20 (AMP)

18 Jesus came up and said to them, All authority (all power of absolute rule) in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations [help the people to learn of Me, believe in Me, and obey My words], baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always [remaining with you perpetually—regardless of circumstance, and on every occasion], even to the end of the age.

Imagine you were one of the disciples gathered around when Jesus was about to ascend to heaven. In awe and in great anticipation you’re waiting to hear what He has to say. Jesus steps up and starts to speak. He says all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Hearing these words gets everyone around you excited for what He’ll say next. Out of all the things Jesus could have said to His disciples, He chose to say Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations. This statement by Jesus reveals His heart for the world. With all the authority He has, He wants us to go and make disciples. This task is now known as the Great Commission. A task every Christian has been called to accomplish.

I’ve been around many Christians and I’ve come to realise that many don’t make disciples. In order to make disciples of all the nations we must first evangelise. Nobody said the road will be easy but we know He has all authority and He said He’s with us always until the end of the age. So through it all we must reach the lost.

    1 Chronicles 11:22 (NLT)

22 There was also Benaiah son of Jehoiada, a valiant warrior from Kabzeel...Another time, on a snowy day, he chased a lion down into a pit and killed it.

What kind of man chases a lion? To accomplish the Great Commission we must become lion chasers - A person focused on accomplishing the Great Commission no matter what. Some Christians say they don’t evangelise often because they don’t know how to. They say they don’t know what to say and haven’t been trained. This book will teach and build you in getting this done. Through various lessons, with questions and answers, you will learn how to begin and continue in evangelism. Whether you’re a beginner or not, this book will bring growth to your life.

Many Christians love God and have the desire to evangelise but aren’t sure where to start or how to expand. We need to learn how to start and finish the job. Benaiah chased the lion on a snowy day, even if the odds are against us in the physical, we are not alone. The Lion of the Tribe of Judah is with us. Benaiah jumped into the pit and killed it. It is time for the church to adopt the do or die mindset. He was either going to kill the lion or get killed by the lion. Are we willing to place ourselves in these situations, if God sends us? Are we willing to give all that we are to Christ no matter what? This book will equip you to stand in those situations and not quit. Christ gave His life for the world and is the Author and Finisher of our faith, so if we don’t quit, we’ll finish the job, one soul at a time.

    CHAPTER 1

    REPENTANCE

Many people live their Christian lives thinking that they truly do their part in evangelism. Due to the cultures we may have in our churches, some Christians end up going days, weeks and years without evangelising and aren’t held accountable by themselves or their leadership. Others say to me, I can’t evangelise like you do, on the street. So they believe they’re not called to evangelise daily, and they go on with their lives leaving evangelism to the Evangelist.

To evangelise requires our attitudes to be in line with the Word of God. The Oxford dictionary defines the word attitude as a settled way of thinking or feeling about something i.e. what you are thinking will be reflected in your behavior. Does this definition remind you of any scripture? Proverbs 23:7 (AMP) For as he thinks in his heart, so is he… The Oxford dictionary also defines mindset as the established set of attitudes held by someone. Evangelism requires a mindset, a set of attitudes in line with the Word. Your established way of thinking that is reflected in your behavior cannot be separated when you evangelise. Evangelism is the lifestyle of a Christian. If we don’t find ourselves evangelising, we’ll need a change of mind. We will need repentance.

There are many types of Evangelists out there. The Street Evangelist is not the only Evangelist out there; there are many different ways to evangelise. We need to be open to the lead of the Holy Spirit in evangelism and if we haven’t been led by Him, it’s time for a change. To change one’s course of direction to another is true repentance. Have we all been called to evangelise? If so, why don’t we all evangelise? How do we get the church to take responsibility when it comes to evangelism? What type of evangelist are you? How do we reach all men? How do we stay consistent? This is why this manual was put together, to help us in the work we’re called to. God does not wish for any man to perish.

    2 Peter 3:9 (AMP)

9 The Lord does not delay and is not tardy or slow about what He promises, according to some people’s conception of slowness, but He is long-suffering (extraordinarily patient) toward you, not desiring that any should perish, but that all should turn to repentance.

If we are to love our God, evangelism is something that cannot be ignored. God is not quick to attack us like some will make you believe. He is extraordinarily patient towards us, giving us ample time to turn to Him. Those who love God will hate what He hates and love what He loves. Evangelism is a priority to those who love God.

    John 3:16 (AMP)

16 For God so [greatly] loved and dearly prized the world, that He [even] gave His [One and] [a]only begotten Son, so that whoever believes and trusts in Him [as Savior] shall not perish, but have eternal life.

The definition of evangelism is simply the expansion of God’s kingdom in the hearts of men through preaching the Gospel in word or in deed. If that is so, why don’t we all evangelise? The problem is that many people play the game, but not many play to win the championship. Yes, we live out our Christian life by taking care of family, working well in our careers, and serving at church. But not many focus on winning souls. They simply ignore the commission given by Christ. Out of all the things an athlete could achieve, to win a championship is the priority. Imagine being on a sports team and your focus is on winning a championship. What if you were to find out that some of your teammates just wanted to play on a team and didn’t care about actually winning a championship? What would you do? Sadly, this is the state of the church now. Many are just playing the game and not focused on winning a championship. This is why evangelism teaching is essential. Our priority
