INTRODUCTION
I know who I am. I am not perfect. I'm not the most beautiful woman in the world.
But I'm one of them.
Mary J. Blige
Ladies, you are stronger than you realize!
Is any one woman better than another? I say no. All women are unique and have their own distinct way in how they explore things and use their knowledge. So, why do we waste our time comparing ourselves to others?
For some women it began when they were in elementary school. Maybe they wished they could read as fast as another girl in their class or do back handsprings. Then there are the teenage years. Our bodies and the way we think go through major changes. Some girls have great hair; some have what we think is perfect figure, while others feel that a certain body part is a horrible disfiguration on themselves. You would think that this plague of comparing ourselves would stop once we become a grown-up
but it doesn’t. Grown women also spend too much time comparing themselves to others.
Most of us do this, right? We compare ourselves to other women and assume they have it all.
The perfect family
An amazing job or career
The perfect body
A great sense of fashion
Intelligence and beauty
Talents galore
Right now I would venture to say that you are thinking of women you know who fit into these categories. But, have you ever thought that maybe these women feel the same way about you and other women too?
Well it’s time to break you out of this destructive way of thinking!
The good news is research has shown that there are multiple areas of intelligences or as I like to think, areas of personal strength. Dr. Howard Gardner of Harvard University doesn’t agree with labeling learners to a specific area of intelligence. After extensive research he has concluded that there are multiple areas of intelligences.
I feel that Dr. Gardner’s research also proves that there are multiple areas of personal strength. I also feel that women should be empowered by their personal strengths.
According to Dr. Gardner, there are at least eight ways of learning. For the purpose of this book I have chosen to call these categories areas of personal strength. The areas are: Word Strong, Math/Logic Strong, Picture Strong, Body Strong, Music Strong, People Strong, Self Strong, and Nature Strong. One of these areas of strength is generally dominant in each of us while others can be a close second. As we grow
