The light blue sky was darkening. Night started to melt slowly into it. Misty pinks and purples started to appear in swirls of delicious color. It was beautiful. It was something that I would have spent more time appreciating, if it wasn’t for what was going on around me.

Are you seriously going to risk your reputation over her? Nick asked Max venomously. What do you think people will say when they find out?

There’s nothing to find out, Max said calmly. The anger and rage that was crashing across Nick’s face could not be found in Max. He was taking the situation in his stride. He was dealing with Nick’s anger in a way that was only infuriating Nick more. Whatever has happened or might happen between myself and Dannie is nobody’s business.

That doesn’t mean they won’t talk, Nick said.

Max sighed and gave Nick a pitying look. School is over in a few short months. We’re applying for jobs and looking into the future. This was going to happen at some point, and you’re blind if you can’t see that.
