The door to my apartment flew open and crashed against the wall behind it. The sound made me flinch, but Nick didn’t seem to notice. Or if he did, he didn’t care. I followed him inside, not knowing what was going to happen next.

He’d been in a foul mood since the wedding. I still couldn’t be sure about what he’d seen. I’d kissed Max. Well, Max had kissed me, but I hadn’t exactly pushed him away. Had Nick seen that? Had Nick seen the spark between Max and me, before he made his presence to us known? It would explain the anger. It would explain the contorted way that he was looking at me.

He sat down on the couch. His whole body leaned back against it, so the tired leather underneath his legs made a muffled squeaking noise with his jeans rubbing against it.
