    Prologue

    Earth

Tarik was fucked. The ship jostled with a hard mechanical roll. Alarms went off as the vessel started to bank hard. He cursed in his native tongue, glancing over his shoulder at Dr. Brandon Yale. Tarik was an excellent aviator but right now, they were in a rough spot.

Brand held the bar above his head as he moved through the back of the surfacer toward Prince Tavek Salvin. The ship was equipped to last them for months if they needed. He hoped to God that they didn’t need to go into hiding for that long.

    Seriously.

They banked hard around Mars, sending the doctor flying into the wall. I told you to strap in, Brandon!

    Fuck, Tarik.

Tarik glanced over his shoulder. Strap your ass in, Brand!

As Brandon moved toward the rear, Tarik adjusted quickly into a smooth turn that the aircraft on Earth were incapable of making. By the look on Brandon’s face, the g-forces made his stomach swim. As expected, he didn’t fasten into a seat. He made it to the back of the ship where Prince Tavek and Ryan were strapped into their seats. They were still weeks away from the prince giving birth but they needed to travel now before it wouldn’t be safe to.

He had the life of Prince Tavek in his hands and the life of his unborn child. Ryan at his side. Worried about their safety, Elian had them leaving the Titan when the mutiny occurred. Trien and his men were now in charge of the Titan.

They needed to go into hiding fast. It was the only way to keep the prince and his family safe.

Another alarm blared. It didn’t sound good this time. Tarik was pushing the surfacer to maximum capacity. They needed to get away from Titan before they could be caught. He hoped it wasn’t too late. A loud hissing sounded from the rear. Warning alarms started to go off. Buckle in!

Brand rushed through the cabin. There’s a crack starting in the hull.

I know. Here, use this to cover it!

Brand caught the emergency pack in his hand, ripping it open. He smoothed the patch down, sealing the ship. We’re not going to make it, are we?

Brand’s rough voice sent a shiver of fear down Tarik’s spine. He was never this serious. Ever.

Strap in. I have a plan.

Why don’t I like the sound of that? Brandon asked.

Sweat beaded Tarik’s brow. They were all fucked if he didn’t get them out of this mess.

There was a good chance they were all going to die.

    Chapter One

    NASA Research Facility

    Puerto Rico

Quad Wexler crossed his arms and stared out at the open ravine looming before him. His sunglasses shaded his eyes but it did little to curb the fear churning in his gut like a bad truck stop sandwich. Behind him, the NASA satellite research facility loomed like a dark warrior ready to unleash its wrath upon the world. It was quiet—too quiet. Silence echoed back at him as though all the animals had left long ago. What did they know?

There was a storm brewing and when it hit, it was going to take out everyone around him—he could feel it. The team he’d brought with him was already setting up shop within the facility. The goal was simple. They were supposed to get the facility going again despite the number of their colleagues still missing. Despite not feeling safe, Quad was going to make it happen.

Quad eased down onto his haunches, smoothing his hand through the loose dirt by his feet. He let the dark soil filter through his fingers. If there was something odd going on here, he was determined to find out. He squinted hard.

It didn’t help that he was at a rough juncture in his life. Before this move, he’d been set to take a promotion—now it was off the table. Things were out of his control. This move was out of his control and had everything to do with a NASA cover-up. The new scientists contracted had no idea what they were stepping into.

The wind whipped around the building, rustling the trees. A chill raced down his spine. It felt like something was out there watching him. Paranoia wasn’t something he entertained. The fact that he was now was as off-putting as the feeling that something was watching him. What was out there?

As the wind whipping around the building settled down, so did his nerves. He wasn’t going to dwell on what had happened to the previous scientists. NASA had updated their security. Their compound was now a locked facility. Quad was ex-Special Forces and that gave him the ability to carry a sidearm. There were even more guns and ammunition inside to protect anything that came at them, until NASA arrived and extracted them.

There was nothing that was going to get past him. He was going to keep everyone safe. No one knew he was ex-military and that was fine with him. He wanted to keep it that way. He was a scientist first.

He headed back toward the flat cement building with new high-tech satellites coming out of the roof and sides. Seventy-two hours ago, he met the team of three he had handpicked for this assignment. They were settling their things now. Tayden, Troy, and Simon were already going through the months of data that was left behind.

Come on, Troy. You really wouldn’t go with them? Tayden asked.

    Troy shook his head. Nope.

    Huh. What about you, Quad?

Quad was taking a drink of his coffee as he sat down at his desk. What was the question?

Would you go with aliens if they came for you? Simon asked.

The question surprised him despite being asked in his interview with NASA prior to coming out to the mountains. Yes.

See. I told you he would go, Tayden said.

With his coffee cup warming his hands, he asked, Why, wouldn’t you?

Troy lifted his shoulders and let them fall as he stared out the window. I wouldn’t want to give all my work up.

    Really?

Quad had his suspicions about what was going on out there in Puerto Rico. He suspected it had something to do with the drug cartel. They hadn’t been abducted by aliens. The rumor mill was getting out of control. That was the reason why they were out there again. It was to put all those nasty tales to rest. Quad was concerned with the stories. There was already a reporter starting to investigate things in the States. It was only a matter of time before they wound up on his doorstep. Quad would need to have answers. Right now, he didn’t have any for NASA and that bothered him.

    Well, Quad?

He had officially checked out of the conversation. Pardon?

    Why would you go?

The idea of being abducted by aliens scared the hell out of Quad. As a scientist, he believed in intelligent life out there but he sure as hell wasn’t prepared to encounter it. I’d be interested in their tech.

    Wouldn’t we all, Tayden said.

After a few seconds of staring at the data in front of him, Quad glanced at Troy. Did you do a data dump on the last year of results?

Yeah. They reviewed five thousand hits.

How long to go through it?

Six months if we work every day on it. Tayden pulled up some of the results. I think they were fudging some of the numbers. Data this abnormal isn’t like anything I’ve ever seen before.

Let me take a look. Quad ran a hand through his hair. I’ve never seen numbers like this either.

Exactly. What do you make of it? Troy asked.

I’ll review it and let you know.

Over the next few hours, Quad reviewed the data. He came to the only conclusion which would make sense of the data. They’d been hacked. He scrubbed his hands down his face. How was he going to tell his boss at NASA? He glanced at his new coworkers. How was he going to tell them?

They were finishing up for the day. Everyone was going to be pulling long hours over the next few weeks. Tayden and Simon were packing up their things. See you tomorrow.

Have a nice evening, Simon said.

The data blurred before his eyes. Something was up with the data. NASA should have been all over this place with these types of satellite readings—if they were true readings. Unless Cooper never had an opportunity to submit them to NASA. After a few strokes of the keypad on his laptop, Quad discovered that that was indeed the case.

    I need a favor.

Quad looked over at Troy whose blond hair was long around his shoulders. Sure, what’s going on?

I have a problem with sleepwalking. I need a roommate.

Concern worried Troy’s expression. It was clear that it was difficult for him to tell Quad about his issues. "No problem. I’m staying here on-site. There’s room for
