About this ebook

Trisha grew up on a farm with her brother and parents. Hating everything about it, she finds solace in her best friend Denise, who shares a common history. Planning for college, they finally get a break when they have a good harvest, after years of drought. Once at college, while sharing a room, Denise finds that her everyday closeness to Trisha stirs up disturbing thoughts.

Focused on doing what it takes to get a degree and find a job, Trisha is oblivious to the turmoil going on in her friends head. Trouble at home ensues for Denise when she is caught smoking pot. Small town politics and her mixed feelings for Trisha leaves her no choice but to finish her college elsewhere while doing what it took to make it. Before leaving, Denise kisses Trisha in the parking lot, leaving her dumbfounded.

Years go by when Trisha discovers that she cannot find a good job in the local market. Leaving to spend some time with Denise in Phoenix, Trisha is taken aback when she sees how Denise makes ends meet.

Denise and Trisha’s Adventure is a feel good, heartwarming tale with plenty of love and passion pushing the boundaries of morality. This book is an adult read with plenty of plot to go with some naughtiness.

Denise and Trisha's Adventure Plus The Kiss - TW Scott

The story is thought provoking, entertaining and it will stay with you. The novel is meant for entertainment purposes only. It is a romance novel with real life juxtaposed with technology and some eroticism.

    College Bound

The stench of the pigpen was one more reminder why Trisha could not wait to go to college. They finally had a good harvest after the years of drought, so her parents could afford the tuition that the grants did not cover. Slopping the pigs was one task she would not miss.

The harvest was also good for her friend's parents, so they would both be able to attend together. Waiting for three years after high school, working at the truck stop to get some money, was paramount.

Meeting Denise at the Truck Stop, they once again slopped the pigs, this time in the form of the two-legged variety.

Did you get your classes scheduled?

Yes, the hard part was not the classes Denise; it was convincing my parents of the need to live on campus.

At least I have Denny; you have nothing to drive. That worked in my favor, had I had a Bug like your Denny; they might have expected me to get up early, help with the farm and then come to class. "You don’t need one now; we pulled the same shifts here, so other than the occasional trip to the city, it will be here and school.

You are going to major in business? Business and Marketing and you are still going to do the computer stuff? I am, I am worried about all of the H1-B workers that companies like Microsoft and these other outsourcing companies bring into the country. With all that cheap labor, it will make jobs hard to find.

Trisha, you are not going to find that kind of job in Lawrence Kansas. You will have to go at least to Kansas City or maybe Topeka. That is four years away Denise, right now I am just happy to be off the farm.

This should be a lot better than the school with the sisters. I hated the uniforms, those damned white cotton panties, and the Nun’s looking at us as if they were God and could see into our hearts. Maybe they could, didn’t you get your ass beat? For chewing fucking gum in class. Maybe the sister had a thing for you. Oh thanks, another phobia to deal with. Maybe not, you got a cute ass; maybe she was into you. Denise, are you serious?

"No, I am fucking with you. We need to go; we are expected at the Truck Stop for the dinner run.

The weeks went by as Trisha and Denise muddled through freshman classes. Christmas break came, and they both had to return home which meant, Farm Shit!

Trisha’s mother was a pleasant person and did the best she could with what they had. Christmas morning came around with the obligatory opening of presents which Trisha used some of her hard earned money for her parents and her brother.

Tips at the Diner were a dollar at best. Farmers thought two bits was adequate not knowing that the owner did not pay them very well to be his slaves. They were both trapped, and they knew it. Helping her mother in the kitchen, she learned to cook. She also was the person to do the dishes. At times, she felt like Cinderella, except her mother loved her.

Her parents managed to gather enough funds for a laptop for her since she wanted to major in Computer Science. Is that the one you wanted? Her mother asked. Yes, it is perfect, thanks, Mom, and Dad. Learn a lot sister; you may have to support your mom and me one day. You are a little mellow dramatic don’t you think?

Her brother was not interested in college; he was following his father's footsteps learning all he could about farming. Getting back to the dorm, after the holidays, Trisha returned from the public showers in a towel. Denise was sitting there reading when she caught her looking at her as she changed.

Are you ok? Yes, did you have a good Christmas? I got a laptop which I needed, of course, no internet at the house but, we have it here. Do you need any help with it? I just need to go to the bookstore and get some applications; it will be nice to have my own laptop. I did not mind sharing with you Trisha.

Trisha hopped up on her bed putting her arm around her. I know you didn’t, but I should be able to have a few things, you already drive us everywhere. Trisha, I like being there for you, I like driving you around. Kissing her cheek she looked at her, You are my bestest friend in the whole wide world!

Trisha’s naked body, with only the sheer nighty between them, did something for Denise, the kiss and the closeness to her made her feel differently.

    Sophomore

Another summer on the farm and Trisha was going to explode. I bet you are glad to be back here. She heard Denise say as she came through the door. Getting up from her bed, she hugged her, I missed you, where did you go this summer? My parents wanted me to do that girls camp where I was a leader."

Were the sisters there? Yes, Sister Sarah kept giving me the stink eye! That is the one who took me over her knee. I think I would have bitch slapped her if she tried that with me. You are back, and we have all new things to learn.

Trisha, how come you don’t have a boyfriend? Trisha looked at her with a puzzled look. I have never found a boy that interested me. Denise looked away as she was hanging her clothes. What about you?

I guess the same thing Trisha, I get hit on a lot here at school but, I am just not interested. Let's face it; there are more girls than guys. From what I see if you are not a cheerleader and all bubbly, they will not look at you. You forgot easy."

Denise, I am a virgin, and I intend to stay that way. Whoever gets me has to love me, and I mean really deeply love me. Deeply as in a big …? Trisha laughed at her, I don’t know about that, I have read some things, and I think that there is a point of diminishing returns with, too big.

So you meant, love you as in emotionally love you. Denise, whoever it is they will need to be a lot like you. Me? Yes, when we are apart I think about where you are or what you are doing. I care about you, so I figure that whoever I marry will have to have a personality like you do. That may be hard to come by.

I am content just to get through school, get a good job and get the hell out of here! Ditto!

The holiday was on them again as they went home to be on the farm. The weather was brutal this year. Snow piled up and drifted making the roads impassable. No roads, no diner, no tips, and no Denise.

Cabin fever was setting in big time as the four in the small house was just about too much for even her brother. Losing power meant living like settlers of the 1800’s. Cooking on the potbelly stove, her mother managed. The root cellar was even too cold for the most of the food down there. Sister, school starts next week, what happens if we can't get you there? Dad, I will walk it!

He laughed at her. Little did he know how serious she was. God was merciful and allowed the weather to break long enough for Him to take her to the school. Driving at a little over 10 mph, they had time to talk.

How are your studies coming? They are good Dad; I am making good grades and learning a lot. Do you need some money? Dad, thanks for offering, I know we don’t have much, that is why I work at the diner. I know that sister, you have missed weeks, I have a little extra if you want it. If you and mom can truly spare it; yes. Otherwise, I will make do.

Pulling up into the parking lot, he handed her some cash. I know I don’t tell you this much sister, but we love you, and are proud of you. Tears formed in her eyes, why was her father so benevolent now? I know you do, is everything alright? Oh sure, we are doing fine. Would you tell me if they weren't? Of course. Ok, love you pop, see you soon.

    Schism

The second year of school was about to end when Trisha would once again be forced to slopping pigs and living in the small house. The two finished the year when Denise took her by surprise.

Trisha, I have something to tell you that will not be easy for either of us. What is that? Trisha, my parents and I got into a massive fight. What over? They caught me smoking pot. Ok, I think every school kid here smokes pot.

You haven’t all this semester. I could not work over the holidays, and I could not use my parent's money for something like that. Well, I did, and they caught me. Are they over it? No honey, when this year is over I am going to Phoenix to finish my degree there.

Trisha was terrified, I don’t want to be away from you Denise. Denise hugged her as tears intermingled from both of them. I am sorry honey, I screwed up, and I hate this fucking place. You are the only good thing in my life, and now I am messing that up too. Denise, are you sure you have to leave?

This is a small town, my parents told the preacher and God only knows who all knows that I am a screw-up. They will be looking at you since we are friends. Well, I have smoked it, fuck them. I am not addicted, but I am not some 1920’s prohibitionists either.

When do you leave? Friday after the finals are over. Will Denny make it? Yes, I should have been a man instead of a girl; I overhauled it in the barn this winter.

Shit, that must have been cold. It was, but I enjoy working with my hands and gadgets and what have you. ‘Maybe you should have been a man; I am really going to miss you!"

Did you manage to get into the server? Yes, Trisha said with a chuckle, here are the test questions and answers. Thanks, you are superb with this stuff. They are not good at it here, or they would practice some security.

What are you going to do without me here? Denise, something is not right at home. I don’t know what it is just yet, but I intend to find out. I guess in the mean time I am going to need to get a car. I am sorry, really I am.

Don’t be, whatever is meant to be, will be. You believe that don’t you? I have to. Otherwise, life like this being a bunch of random events…does not make sense.

If you ever need to get out of here, call me, I will have a place for you even if it is a couch. Denise, I may do that, be sure you mean it if you offer. Sugar, I would not offer it unless I meant it.

The day of the finals came and went, Both Trisha and Denise passed with flying colors. The two had embraced one another before Denise was to leave. Looking each other in the face, Denise closed the gap between them and kissed her on the lips.

Trisha looked at her with a half-smile and in somewhat of a daze before Denise crawled into her lime green Volkswagen and left her standing in the parking lot.

Walking back to the dormitory, she was still in a fog as she gathered her belongings waiting for David, her brother to help her.

    Modern Times

David had acquired a taste for the internet. Trisha had an idea what he was doing by now as she had a program that would identify packets that traverse the Internet from their home. Porn was rife, and they lived on a farm. After the fucking Roosters shut up, what else is there to do but sleep, watch one of three channels or surf the web.

David, not being an intellectual giant liked porn. His friend Billy had turned him on to some sites where the girls would pose in front of webcams.

Trisha’s junior year was not nearly as enjoyable as her friend was not there. They would talk on Skype frequently, but that was not the same. She managed to get a car to use, to get back and forth to the Diner. David had found a beater and patched it together for her to use while she was at school. Denise was still the talk of the town. People would speak in hushed tones around Trisha. Most of the kids at school drove nice cars or trucks; Trisha drove an 84 Fierro that used more oil than gas. She did not care; she knew how to fill the oil and check the gas.

Surprisingly, the little car did well on the snow and ice where her friends in jeeps and four-wheel drives were in the ditches. Her junior year came and went as she spent most of her time at the Diner trying to save some money for her escape.

    Ailment

Thanksgiving was nothing to be thankful for. Once home she noticed that her mother’s color was not right. David and her father had been dealing with this for many months; they knew that the end was near. Trisha just learning of this could not possibly be prepared as they were.

Mom, is something wrong? Honey, we thought that we could deal with this without you knowing, but I am afraid that we can't. Deal with what mom she said now with moisture in her eyes. A while back the doctors told me I was sick. We have been making trips to Kansas City to the hospital there, and the treatments don’t seem to be working like they wanted them to.

Why in the hell did nobody tell me? Her mother started crying as Trisha laid with her, holding her. We did not want to mess up your schooling dear. You are my mother; I would have left the damned school to be here with you. That is why we did not tell you, sister; her dad said walking into to room. So David knows? Yes, dear.

God Dammit, you all should have told me, you son of a bitch! David came into the room hearing her curse when Trisha got up and started slapping him. Constraining her flailing arms, they made me promise sis!" he said with tears running down his face. She collapsed into his arms. The news was too much for her to handle. Looking at them all through prisms of tears, she left to go outside into the blowing snow in short sleeves and a skirt.

It's cold out there Dad, one of us should go get her, he said in a broken voice. Give me her coat; I should have told her I guess. David handed him Trisha’s coat and sat with his mother.

David, take care of her, she is going to be lost without me. Mom, she is her own person, I don’t expect her to stay here once she graduates. If I had it to do over again, I would not stay here either. I wrote a letter to her in the drawer over there, make sure she gets it.

Mom, you can give it to her. No David, … my vision is fading, I don’t think I am ……

    Mom! No……! David screamed.

The scream was heard in the barn alerting Trisha and Her father to come back to the house. They came into the room to see David kneeling beside the bed crying over his mother's lifeless body. Trisha went to the other side of the bed hugging her trying to will her back to life. It was no use…

Her father and brother had to pull her off her mother, restraining her once again. Her father pulled out some whiskey he had stashed giving Trisha and David what they wanted.

The funeral was Thanksgiving Day. The undertakers had a hard time digging in the frozen ground. The bitterly cold wind made the graveside service next to impossible. Her mother was loved in the town, at the church, and wherever she was known. Sister Sarah came up to Trisha and offered her a hug, which she found odd, but accepted it.

The Holiday was a sad affair, but Trisha had helped enough in the kitchen she could cook them dinner. Along with the usual ingredients that one might expect to find, were the occasional tears, as she worked away trying to make a nice meal for her family.

A week before school was supposed to resume; Trisha was working on canceling her classes to be with her family when David came into her room.

David, what is going on? Mom said I was to take care of you, Trisha, she stated that you would be lost without her. Well, I am going to cancel my attendance and stay here with you two, so you don’t poison yourselves. No, you need to go finish your school, it was important to mom to have one of her kid's graduate from college. How do you know that?

Here, I was supposed to give you this, with the funeral and stuff, I forgot. Taking the letter from him, she recognized her mother's handwriting. David left her alone, but not before closing the school’s website, where she was filling out forms to drop out.

    Hello from the other side.

    My Darling Trisha,

If you are reading this, the doctors were unsuccessful at treating my cancer. It was my idea to conceal my condition from you. I am sorry but, I know you better than you know yourself. You would throw away your schooling to come home and nurse me; I can not have that.

Breast cancer is a terrible disease honey; it runs in the family so get checked often. I did not and well, you see where that went. Your father is a good man, he and David are nuts over the farm, I know that you are not. If you decide to leave here after you graduate, know that I would have been ok it.

You have always been a blessing to me Trisha; I know you so well, I wish we had time to talk like we used to. Know this; everything happens as it is supposed to. When you get that degree, know that I will be watching, championing you on, no matter how you use it.

Tears stained the paper causing the ink to run as she was reading it.

One of the things I would offer is, think outside the box. Don’t let others put you in what they decide the box should look like. This will make sense to you one day.

I am sorry for deceiving you honey; it was necessary, and you know deep down that I am right. I love you more than anything, and I think you know that too.

    Mom

Collapsing on the bed, with the letter in her hands, David came by once more and then switched her light off as she had cried herself to sleep.

Cold from the night crept into her room as she awoke to find herself still dressed on top of her covers. The house was dark and drab. Most of the lights were off, and the warmth that filled the house was gone as was her mother's love.

Stirring the coals in the potbelly stove, Trisha brought life back to the fire. Making some warm tea, Trisha sat there singing softly to herself. Tears dotted the blanket around her, as she quietly sang all the songs that she remembered that her mother used to sing to her, to comfort her. From sicknesses to nightmares, her mother sang to her while she held her. This was the worst nightmare of her young life, the one person that she needed to help guide her was gone.

It was midnight when she thought about Denise. Calling her, Denise picked up with a sleepiness in her voice. Trisha? She’s dead Denise… she blurted out. Tears and strings of snot covered her face as she tried to talk. Who is dead? Mom…. Shit, I am so sorry, when did it happen? Thanksgiving. Honey, is there anything that I can do? I am lost Denise, you’re gone, and now Mom is gone. Trisha I am not dead, just not close by. You know what I mean.

Do you want me to come home? I would love for you to come back, but I will not ask that of you. I would lose my job, but I would do it for you? Denise, we have such a strange friendship, I miss you so much! Me too sweetie, I am still sorting some things out, but I do miss you.

How is your schooling coming? Without you here to get me answers, I have to work harder. Trisha laughed at her, I am proud of you, leaving home, finishing your schooling and working, that must be a tough schedule. It is, but I am determined. How are you doing with your schooling?

I was doing fine until this; I was going to drop out to take care of David and Dad, but my mother left me a message from the grave.

That sounds spooky. She wrote a letter to me when she knew that she was dying Denise. So you did not know that she was sick. No, do you remember me telling you a year ago something was off? Yes. That must have been it. I am sorry Trisha, I really am.

Do you have a couch for me, if I come to visit? I will make a place for you if you decide to come. Denise, I am going to graduate, and then take it from there. I am surprised that your father still wants you to go to school. This schooling thing was Mom’s idea, the financing of it and everything; she said she knew me better than I knew myself.

Mothers can be like that. Denise, she said in the letter to think outside the box. What do you think she meant by that? Denise had an idea but was not ready to offer it up. Trisha, you are a smart girl, you will figure it out.

Are you working? Yes, waiting tables, but I am managing. Denise, thanks for talking with me, I needed to hear your voice. Trisha, I love you, you know that. If there is anything that you need, just call me.

Denise, I love you as well. I will skype you when I get back to the dorm. Ok, do your best sweetie; call me if you need to talk. Ok, thanks! Hanging up the phone, she thought back to the last time she saw her and that kiss.

    Graduation

David and her father watched as Trisha walked the platform and tossed her tassel to the other side of her mortarboard. Taking pictures of her, David made all the noises one might expect of a family member. Her father had become bitter; he was not over the loss of his wife and David was not the best person to keep company with.

Bringing Trisha and her belongings back to the house, the heat and humidity were oppressive. Changing into a light sundress, she went about cleaning the mess in the kitchen. Months of grease and grime had covered things. Her mother would have been pissed if she had seen it.

Finding things to cook, she created beef stew for her family while they worked the farm. The aroma of food was a welcome thing to David and her father as they came back into the house. I see you did not lose your talents to cook. Her father said.

I need to teach you guys how to do this. She said. Are you leaving sister? One day, I need to put this piece of paper to work, mom would have wanted that. So nobody was waiting to hire you when you crossed the stage.

No pop, I will probably have to work in a larger city. They might need some of that computer stuff at the bank? He offered. I will look locally first, but I am not going to waste this, guys. They all ate without too much more said. David and her father left the table with their dishes still on the table without so much as thanks or kiss my grits.

Trisha let it go, cleaning the kitchen as her mother would do, and then went to check on Denise via Skype. They just left everything on the table? Yes, I was thinking they might at least treat me to dinner for graduating but, nope. If you want to wait tables with me, come on down.

Denise, I need to do something with this computer science degree. There is real money there, but I have to find some place to apply it. Let me know if I can help. You can look at the paper or talk with your customers and see if anyone needs someone in that field.

Honey, I have already been doing that. It is nice that you have the sheepskin, how much experience do you have? How do you get experience if nobody will hire you? You go be an intern somewhere and whore yourself out for free, or next to nothing so you can write something on the application.

That fucking sucks! Is that what you are running into? Yes, I will finish my schooling next month; I will have lots of student loan debt and will probably be waiting tables to pay for it. The American dream got kind of shitty didn’t it?

Companies are bringing in cheap labor and exporting jobs where employees can be abused and hired cheaply. Why is that? Fucking politicians are bought and paid for by big business, to make laws that allow them to do it. Did you learn that in school? Yes, I am paying big dollars going into debt to find out how fucked we are.

What is the answer? Trisha, I am working that out, I may know soon. If you figure it out, and there is a place for me, let me know. You are one of the reasons I am doing this. Really? Trisha, I miss you.

Denise, I miss you as well, if nothing else we need to get together. If things get grim, come visit, we can have some laughs, and you can look over the job market in Phoenix. I will keep that in mind.

Another night passed. The morning sunlight filtered in through the open windows along with the roosters!

Trisha wished she had learned to shoot the 22.

Making breakfast the two men came out to sit at the table cleaning their plates and then leaving them on the table.

Excuse me.... Trisha said. What sister? At least put your damned dishes in the sink! she said. David was taken aback, and her father was shocked. Is that what they taught you at school? Is what, what they taught me at school? She asked not backing down giving him a cold hard stare.

Her father recognized that look. Not saying anything, he remembered his wife giving him that look. Picking up his dishes, he put them in the sink and left without saying a word. David was shocked and followed suite. Do you want me to help you wash them? Yes God Dammit, wash or dry, take your choice.

Walking outside after helping her in the kitchen, he caught up with his father in the barn. What took you so long? I helped Trisha wash the dishes.

His father said nothing for a few minutes and started laughing. What is so funny? Your mom and I had that argument years ago, and your sister just had her fill of us running over her. She is the woman; that’s what they do?

David, let me give you some fatherly advice. She is not your mother, and she is not a woman in the sense of what you just said. She is my daughter and your sister, and I have treated her poorly, as have you.

So what are we supposed to do? Help out, learn to cook, something. We already work the farm. David, she is your sister, not your mom. If you want her to stick around, you best learn that quick like. Ok, I will see about helping her.

His father started chuckling again as he crawled under the tractor. What are you laughing at now? It felt as if your mom was alive again, so much of your mother is in sister, it is incredible. It did now that I think about it, should we have done something for her graduation?

Dammit David, yes we should have, I would ask you if you grew up in a barn, but I know the answer. What do we do now? I don’t know, I wish your mother were still here, she would know what to do. Daddy, Mom, had a ring that Trisha used to like, do you know the one? Yes, it was her mothers, it is a family heirloom, you are talking about the one with the opal in it aren't you?

It was gold with a white stone that sparkled with the sunlight. Let's finish early before she starts dinner, clean up and take her out to eat. Ok Dad, we are dummies sometimes. He looked at him not acknowledging his comment but realizing that he screwed up as well.

    The Ring

David and his father came in to find Trisha cleaning the house. Grabbing the broom from her, he looked at her. Sister, I messed up, and I hope you can forgive me. What did you do now? I did not recognize your big day, and I treated you poorly, I am sorry. Dad, its ok, you just lost mom. It's not ok; you lost her too. Yes, I did.

"I think she would have wanted you to
