    Chapter One-The Lost Family

It was a chilly, rainy and gloomy night as the Chad family cruised down Heights Road on their way home from a much needed family vacation.

Turn right on Scilly Road. The GPS instructed.

They continued driving a few more feet when they came up on an old, rusty sign that read Scilly Road. It would have appeared that this sign had not been changed since it was first planted decades ago.

Okay honey, I think this is where we turn. Amy confirmed squinting her eyes as she read the weathered sign.

Amy observed the fog that loomed over the dreary, eerie looking road. She felt as if a cold chill had crept up through her spine although the heat was on in the van. The children were busy bobbing their heads to their music and had no sense of what was taking place around them. They really hadn’t wanted to be on vacation with their parents in the first place. Julie wanted to spend the weekend at her best friend’s house and Justin had preferred to be in his room playing video games. But instead, they were at the lake house with the nearest neighbor a mile away and no outside media was allowed. They were happy to go home to get back to their normal lives.

Oliver came to a complete stop before deciding to turn down the road.

Uh, honey, are you sure this is the road?

Oliver couldn’t help but get a strange feeling about this. As creepy as the road looked, he didn’t mind taking a detour.

Turn right onto Scilly Road. The GPS repeated.

Oliver, I don’t know about this. I think we should just keep driving. The GPS will eventually reroute us to hopefully a highway.

I agree. Let’s get out of here.

Oliver drove for another ten miles. There was nothing in site, just dense trees and then open field, dense trees and then another open field. Eventually they could see another road ahead in the distance.

Turn right onto Scilly Road. The GPS ordered.

Amy shook her head. This can’t be right.

Justin blurted out from the backseat. Are we there yet?

    No, no. Not yet honey.

Uggghhhh. This drive is taking forever! Justin complained while putting his earbuds back into his ears.

They pulled up and stopped once again at the rusty sign SCILLY ROAD.

    Turn right onto Scilly Road.

What is going on? Oliver questioned looking around. He looked ahead and saw trees decorating both sides of the road.

Do you think that there is another road up ahead? Amy asked.

I don’t know. However, we have to get some gas soon, so I don’t think it’s worth it to keep going.

Oliver took a deep breath and made the turn right onto Scilly Road. They drove down Scilly Road in an eerie silence. Justin took out his earbuds. Where are we? He looked at the trees and all of a sudden, he felt as if unseen eyes were watching his family from deep within them.

We are on Scilly Road. Oliver answered.

Wait did you just say Scilly Road? Julie asked looking up from her phone.

Justin looked at her and Oliver looked at her through the rearview mirror.

Yes I said Scilly Road, why?

The fear that Julie’s face wore told a story; a story of horror. She had heard about this road before. One time while her and some friends were hanging out and drinking, her close friend Dawn had told her a story about one of the girls from the cheerleading team that had dared Thomas, a guy that was on the football team to drive the distance of Scilly Road and drive back; he never came back. His parents had been looking for him ever since.

We need to get off this road now! Julie exclaimed starting to have a panic attack.

Calm down Julie, tell us what is wrong. Amy replied in a calm tone. Although this road creeped her out undoubtedly, she would not dare lose her composure in front of her children.
