    Purrfect Harmony - Misha Carver

    CHAPTER ONE

    ~ Tom~

I turned around and heard her feet running towards the door. When I looked on the table and realized my keys were gone, I couldn’t believe it. The witch was taking off with my car and there was nothing I could do about it.

I ran to the door in time to hear the engine start up and see her pulling out of the driveway. There I was stuck in her house with nothing but a cup of tea and my shoes. I paced back and forth across the floor for a couple seconds, trying to figure out what to do.

She was way too sick to be driving. I didn’t think she knew that I knew that she was the daughter of the owner of Majestic, but something caused her to leave in a hurry. I had to know what it was.

Why the hell did she take my car? I looked over at the table and saw her cell phone sitting there. I knew the answer was in the last call that she took. Hoping that she used call display, I went over to take a quick peek. Sure enough, the last number that dialed hers was Ronald Sumner, her father.

Whatever it was that made her take off in a hurry had something to do with him. I could only assume that she knew that I was now the enemy. Although in her mind, I had always been the enemy. I was the only fool in this situation.

Still, the way she took off so quickly, I couldn’t get the haunting feeling off my mind that there was something wrong. I sat there waiting, hoping she’d come back or call and let me know she was okay. When thirty minutes went by and I still hadn’t heard from her, I started to worry even more.

The lingering feeling that something was wrong would not go away. I felt like I needed to run to her. I felt like she needed me. Against my better judgment, I pushed redial and called her father.

Hi Jacy, I knew that you’d come around sooner or later, her father said when he answered the phone.

It’s not Jacy, I answered. It’s Tom Puma.

Where is Jacy and why are you using her phone? he asked in an angry voice.

I don’t know where she is, I said. After she hung up the phone with you, she grabbed my keys off her table and took off in my car.

And you’re calling me why? he asked.

I was worried. Something made her take off in a hurry. I have this overwhelming feeling that something is the matter with her, that something’s wrong. If you don’t mind me asking, what were the two of you talking about?

Look, Tom, what my daughter and I discuss in private has absolutely nothing to do with you. Mind your own business and stay out of our lives.

I’m just concerned about your daughter. I love her and her well-being is important to me.

When you say she took off in a hurry, what exactly do you mean?

I mean, she grabbed my keys off the table, ran out the door, and started up my car before I even turned around.

And you haven’t heard from her since? he asked with a tinge of worry in his voice.

No, I haven’t heard a thing. I’m getting more nervous by the second.

I’m in the middle of a meeting right now. If you could look for her, I’d appreciate it, he said.

I’m on it, I said before I hung up the phone and ran out the door.

Something in me knew that I had to find her fast; maybe it was my panther instincts. I knew that I had to get to her, and I had to get there in a hurry. There I was running down her driveway in my dress shoes getting nowhere fast.

The only way that I was going to get there and with any speed at all was with the momentum and force of a panther. I put all my strength and concentration into shifting until finally my arms and legs turned into front legs and back legs and my whiskers started to grow.

Then my paws came out along with my nails, and my fur penetrated through my skin. Once the transition had taken place, I was able to run at agile speeds to find my Jacy.
