    ABOUT THIS BOOK

All I wanted was fame and fortune...but it came with a price

They turned me into successful recording artist Sasha Storms, the badass pop princess whose albums tore up the music charts. My handlers created my image from the get-go right down to keeping my husband Caleb a secret.

They held my career in the palm of their hands and they knew it. I’d do whatever they said because they had the power to take it all away. Then one day, they turned my whole world turns upside down in a heartbeat when a special guest attended one of my concerts. Despite my protests, the wheels were set in motion.

When things got out of hand I had no choice but to make a life-altering decision to move my career forward. When I was left alone to face the music, I just hoped I’d make the right ones.

    PROLOGUE

It all started so simply, really. What started as a normal day wound up complicated in so many ways. I didn’t even see it coming. Before I knew it my whole world turned upside down and there wasn’t a thing I could do about it but smile and look pretty.

That’s what happens in this business, you do what they tell you, even if it means disrupting your life and risking it all. Sometimes though, you just have to take the bull by the horns and do it. After all you only life once.

    CHAPTER ONE

I bowed as the audience cheered before running off the stage for a costume change and cold drink of water. The sweat was pouring off my body from the heat of the lighting and the vigor of our dance moves. I was glad this tour was almost over. I loved the fans, but touring was another thing altogether.

Waking up in a hotel room in one city, and traveling to another by nightfall became old very fast. I remember when I dreamed of this. After living it for a few years, I realized that a huge price came with the fame and fortune I worked so hard for.

Goddammit, I said as I tried to get my costume over my head. I can’t get it on. I’m too fat.

It’s because your body is soaked. Here, I’ll help, one of the assistants said as she tugged and pulled. I’d gotten used to people seeing me change over the years, and to being forced into whatever outfit waited offstage for me to wear next.

Doesn’t anyone ever wash these things? I yelled. I stink. I grabbed a can of Febreze and started spraying the ornately decorated fabric down while everyone watched in horror. You’ll ruin the fabric, one said quietly as she watched.

I don’t care. I’m not going out there smelling like a dog. Now why are you all standing around? We have another set in five minutes. I stared at them in disbelief while they all continued to stand there looking at me. Well, get to it. Clearly they weren’t getting the hint. Now, I yelled.

Suddenly there was action in the room, which brought a smile to my face. I hated a staff that didn’t work as hard as I did. I didn’t hire them and bring them all around the world for them to stand in a room gossiping and looking off into space. Caleb, my husband, stood off in the corner laughing. He loved it when I took charge.

After I sprayed myself down with my favorite perfume and adjusted the girls to spill over the cups of my tiny costume perfectly, he walked over to me. Why don’t you take your own advice, and get out there? he said as he kissed me once for good luck.

I turned and ran back to the stage. The rush of the screaming and crying of the audience never ceased to amaze me. It still shocked me that people even bought my records, let alone came out to see me. But the record company had built my image, and it was anything but who I really was. My image was just a shell of a person that didn’t exist, and somewhere along the way, I got lost.

Hey Zimbabwe, I said into my head mic. Everybody screamed and started waving their hands high in the air. Did you ever fall in love with someone who didn’t love you back? They roared with excitement. It’s a hard road to go down, but sometimes you have to roll with the punches. Hit it guys.

My dancers joined me on stage and as we rocked out to Lost Forever. The audience went crazy. I couldn’t see beyond the third row from where I stood. But everyone I could see was dancing and singing along as they cried.

What the hell? I thought when an extra dancer suddenly joined us up there. My eyes darted back and forth to my security team on either sides of the stage while I kept singing and dancing.

My game was off, but I tried not to show it. Finally, one of my dancers grabbed the fan as he reached out to touch me, while I moved away. One of my security people then helped the dancer get the guy off stage so the police could arrest him.

Who are these people? I thought. I hire a security team to keep me safe and my dancers wind up doing their job. Not only that, but it seems like the fans get just a little bit more deranged every year. I
