About this ebook

"The significance of things is rarely apparent at the moment they occur. People don't know it's the last time they're making love with a significant other or the last time they're seeing a friend, until long after the moment has come and gone. Lovers grow distant, friends drift apart, and one day you look back at that time you dug your nails in his back, or that phone call you ended way too soon, and wish you'd known you'd never get another chance. Wish you'd savored it while it lasted, instead of taking it for granted.

I often wish I'd realized the last time I felt the sun caressing my skin.

Or the last time I heard my mother's voice.

Hell, I wish I'd known the last time I heard my heart beat."

Follow Cherry's first steps into a world she was never prepared for, in this prequel to the Vampire Cherry series.

Author

Sotia Lazu

Sotia loves romances with a twist and urban fantasy novels, always with vivid erotic elements. Her favorite characters to write are not conventional hero-material at first glance, and she enjoys making them fight for their happiness. Sotia shares her life and living quarters with her husband, their son, and two rescue dogs, one of which may be part-pony. Sappy movies make her bawl like a baby, and she wishes she could take in all the stray dogs in the world. Also, she hates mornings!

The significance of things is rarely apparent the moment they occur. People don’t know it’s their last time in bed with their significant other or their final goodbye to a friend until long after the moment has come and gone. Lovers grow distant, friends drift apart, and one day you look back at that time you dug your nails in his back or ended that phone call way too soon, and wish you’d known you’d never get another chance for that level of intimacy. Wish you’d savored it while it lasted, instead of taking it for granted.

I often wish I’d realized the last time I felt the sun caressing my skin.

Or the last time I heard my mother’s voice.

Hell, I wish I’d known the last time I heard my heart beat.

    One

What are you wearing tonight? Sheena wrinkled her nose at my open closet.

Something short? I ducked inside the mess of clothes and fished out a tiny black dress. Breathing in it may be hard, but it gives me a killer cleavage.

She tapped a manicured nail on her cheek. It’s a little cheap for this crowd. Don’t you have something more… upscale?

I arched an eyebrow. "I doubt this crowd will be judging me on my clothes, when I’ll only be there because they’ve seen me without any." The guests hadn’t seen me naked in person, of course, but my production company threw the party, and what said company produced was adult movies. Very adult. I’d been in two of those as an extra, before I signed a contract for my first starring role, in Knotting Cherry Stem.

    I’m Cherry Stem.

It started off as my stage name, but that’s how I think of me now.

Besides, I have a million things to do for tomorrow, and I won’t even stay at the party that long, I said. Shooting started in the morning, and I wouldn’t show up with bags under my eyes.

Still, you’ll be mingling with celebs. It’s my agently duty to make sure you fit in. She grabbed the dress from my grasp and tossed it on the bed. Come. We’ll do it all. I’ll take you shopping before we hit the salon. You can pay me back when you get your first fat paycheck.

I wasn’t saying no to that. I looped my arm through hers, and we hit the road.

It didn’t take long to find the perfect dress. It was as short as my first option but covered in sequins the color of champagne, and the way the reflective surfaces caught the light gave me a glow that made me feel like a star.

Sheena waved off my protests over the five-hundred-buck price tag, and treated me to a light lunch before taking me to her favorite beauty salon for all my body hair to be removed in a painful manner.

Not even a landing strip? I looked down at my bare pussy. It wasn’t ugly, but I was used to a blonde tuft at the top.

Nope. You must look perfect for the part. Hair’s next.

She meant the hair on my head this time, and by the time Jean Paul was done with it, my natural blonde mane was a bright cherry red—with bangs.

Your drapes match my front-door mat. Sheena laughed.

Once my nails were buffed and polished, and my makeup applied to Sheena’s satisfaction, I had just enough time to go back to my place and change. I squeezed inside the dress and barely managed to slip on a pair of high heels before my cab arrived.

Sheena pretended to sniffle, as she followed me to the curb. I feel like your fairy godmother. She’d been nothing short of that since she walked into my life. I’d come to the city to build a bigger life for myself than San Luis had to offer, but until Sheena discovered me behind a doughnut display, I had no clue how to go about it.

Have fun and do everything I would, she said now.

Don’t mind if I do. I hadn’t seen any action since my last movie, and that was with a girl. We didn’t do much; we were background writhing bodies at a supposed Roman orgy.

I missed sex since I moved to L.A., but men here were too fast for me.

Yeah, yeah. I know how that sounds, coming from an aspiring porn star, but movies were different. I wasn’t in danger of falling in love with my partner tomorrow—and I was promised it would only be one partner—and I knew what to expect from him
