Catherine Rose

Catherine Rose is the pen name for a perverted old lady that likes to write stories inspired by her earlier days which she very much misses. Granted anything involving monsters, aliens, and horror stories are pure fiction...the rest? Not so much..

The cab jolted to a sudden stop. The driver turned his greasy head toward me and blinked lizard slow. I wondered just how long he'd been in south Florida.

You want to go in? He mumbled, Then you go from here. This is as far as I go. Bad shit happens there.

I gave him my sweetest Instagram ready smile and swiped my phone over the screen to pay him. He jerked the car into gear and motored off spewing gravel everywhere.

I looked up at the dark blood colored neon over the club and looked at the long line snaking around the building.

It was almost one thirty in the morning. For some of the people in the line, they were waiting to get in just for the novelty. Others might have decided to go buck wild and this was the place they’d chosen to let all their inhibitions go if only for one night. The rest? Who knew why anybody went. The club moved every week. But it was always packed. Dancers routinely showed up hoping to catch the eye of a hip hop video producer. The others dancing inside- well not all of them would be going out the front door before the sun came up. I was pretty sure the unlucky ones would be going out the back door straight into the meat truck.

I walked up to the bouncers. A secretive smile and they let me straight in. Sporadic whines and shouts of complaint arose on the hot Miami air but I ignored them and strolled inside.

The heat of humanity rolled against the air conditioning while industrial dance music blared from the speakers. Pulsing light and flashes of cell phones capturing the moment for social media were everywhere. After all if it wasn't uploaded, snapped or shared then it might as well have never happened.

After about fifteen minutes of standing there, I made my way over to the bar. I ordered a beer from the bartender. She was a young and pretty girl, who had the prettiest hazel eyes I'd ever seen. There was no fear of my suddenly appearing drunk, because I really hadn't been drinking that much, only two or three beers earlier sitting on the beach watching the sun set in a giant splash of color.

I watched as she made my beer with the splash of cranberry juice and put it down on the bar, then leaned over and smiled at me. So why the juice?

I grinned back flashing all my teeth, I like the color and sudden tang. She pursed her lips, nodded in understanding and wandered off to serve the four deep line shouting out orders.
