    Chapter 1

Abbey walked out of the house and down to the mailbox at the end of the driveway. She was walking slower now being almost five months pregnant. But walking to the mailbox had become a daily journey that she looked forward to.

Abbey was waiting on a letter from her husband Tim. She waited everyday for that one letter telling her how much he missed her, loved her and couldn’t wait to see her again. It had been a week since the last one, and she was going crazy.

Abbey opened the mailbox, grabbing the stack of mail from inside. Quickly flipping through them, she saw it. The tell tale sender address gave it away.

She went as quickly back up to the house as her body could take her. Tearing the envelope open as she went, Abbey got to the door, went inside and pulled the letter out.

She sat down at the kitchen table and careful read the letter.

It was short, barely a page.

Tim was letting her know he was coming home in a month. Oh thank God, Abbey said to herself.

Abbey still hadn’t told him she was pregnant. She would be six months by then, and big, or at least bigger. Abbey had thought about telling Tim over the months, but she didn’t want him to be worried all by herself. She didn’t want to endanger him wherever he was.

On Tim’s last deployment with the Marines, he had come home after seventeen months a totally different person. He was aggressive, forceful, and definitely more sexual. He was not the passive man she had married anymore. It had been the best change for them. Tim had brought out feelings in both of them that had surprised her. His absence, even heart wrenching, had brought them back together.

Tim brought Abbey’s adventurous side up to the surface and they experienced things together they had never done together. But he also brought home a jealousy side he had never had in the past.

Tim had made good on his promise. The first seventeen months he had barely written a handful of letters to her. Abbey’s letters came back ‘Return to Sender’, and she had been very upset with him. The last time he had been home, Abbey made him promise her he would write more often and that she needed to hear from him to stay sane.

He had, he had written beautiful letters, speaking of love, their life together and their future. Tim had come thru, warming Abbey’s heart everyday and keeping their love alive while they were apart from each other.

Now that she was pregnant with their child, both of their lives would have to change drastically once Tim came home. Abbey had adjusted pretty well since finding out she was pregnant. Their long time friends Vic and Maureen had been a huge help. Once Abbey had found out, she had to tell someone since she couldn’t tell Tim. Maureen and Vic were so happy for them. They would be surrogate grandparents, since they never had children of their own, Tim and Abbey had been taken under their wings years ago.

Back at work, Abbey was busy entering a new listing she had just acquired, when the phone rang at her desk.

This is Abbey, how can I help you?

Hi, Abbey, this is Scott McWilliams, do you remember me?

Abbey did not have to go too far back in her mind to think. Hi Scott, of course I do, I found you a great investment property a few months back.

    You remembered I’m flattered.

Abbey laughed, How could I forget such a great client Scott.

Well I’m glad you feel that way, because I’m back again. I’m looking for another investment property. DO you think you could help me again?

Of course I can, it would be a pleasure.

Oh thank you Abbey, I was hoping you would be available. I won’t be in town for another month and a half, is that going to be ok?

Sure that would be perfect. Just send me the pertinent information with what you’re looking for, and I’ll start looking around.

Oh Abbey you’re the best. I’ll send the information. Great talking to you, I’ll get in touch closer to my arrival date.

Great Scott, I can’t wait. I’ll talk to you soon.

    Yes you will bye Abbey.

    Bye Scott.

Abbey hung up her phone thinking about Scott, he had actually been someone Tim had got jealous about. He had seen Scott hug her outside a restaurant and didn’t like it.

Abbey worked a few more hours and then headed over to Vic and Maureen’s for dinner. They had demanded that she come over at least three times a week for dinner. They didn’t want her standing over a stove cooking for one in her position.

Not that she had been cooking a whole lot for one. It had mostly been microwave dinners since they were quick and easy.

Arriving at Vic and Maureen’s, she saw Vic standing out on the porch waiting for her. He did this every time she was expected over. He was so worried for her, being alone in an empty house, Tim away months at a time. He had even suggested that she move in to their house until Tim came home. Abbey had protested profusely, there was absolutely no way she would do that. She couldn’t have anyone hovering over every step she took, it would drive
