Madison had been pulling all sorts of all nighters working in the science lab at her school. She had been trying to complete her final project of the semester in bio chem and was completely exhausted. It seemed as if everything that she tried was working against her. Every time she thought it was going to work out perfectly she was disappointed with bad results. Today was a new day and she was confident that she was going to be able to finish her project.

She had been working closely with her professor over the past few weeks and he had finally given her the approval to start testing her new 'super pill' on rats. Within an hour of giving the rats her pill they seemed to already responding well. They seemed more active and when testing their memory Madison and her professor gathered better results. Madison was ecstatic and after 6 long hours of watching her rats she finally decided to call it a night.

Madison assigned several interns to watch the rats for any signs of exhaustion or heart problems before heading out. She told them to make sure to jot anything suspicious down immediately and call her if something bad happened with any of her rats. She needed this pill to work and was taking every measure to assure it did. Madison planned on returning first thing in the morning before any of her classes to check on the rats herself.

When she got home she was extremely tired and headed to her room to get some much needed shut eye. She knew it was going to be another long and tedious day of watching her rats tomorrow as well. All night long she listened her roommate Lily coughing and running to the bathroom which was right next to her own room. Madison knew Lily had not been feeling well for a few days now but she hadn't really been around much so she wasn't aware of just how bad Lily was.

At about 5 am Madison heard Lily struggling to get to the bathroom once again and went out to see if there was anything she could do. Lily apologized to Madison and said there was nothing to except ride it out. Madison helped her to the bathroom and put her back into bed before putting a cool cloth on Lily's head. She felt terrible that she wasn't able to help her friend more but she had to go back to the lab in less than an hour.

As Madison was gathering her things to leave for school she noticed that she had somehow managed to take the bottle of her 'super pills' home. They were right there in the pocket of her lab coat. She couldn't believe that she had done something so silly. She would have to figure out some way to sneak them back into the lab without anyone noticing. If someone found out she had taken them home, her whole project could be set back to the beginning again.

Just as she was about to walk out the door she heard her roommate coughing again. She knew that these pills could help get Lily back to where she should be quicker than anything but also knew it was risky since the pills were only in the testing phase. Madison called the lab to find out how the rats had done over the night and then she would make a decision about Lily from there. The girl on the other end of the phone said that the rats were doing great and seemed to be getting better and better even by the hour. Madison was so thrilled she couldn't even believe what she was hearing.

Madison headed back upstairs to talk to her roommate Lily. When she mentioned the subject of her super pill to Lily she wanted it without even listening to Madison explain that the pill was still in testing phase. Lily was so excited to take anything that would make her feel better she didn't care what the possible side effects were. Lily grabbed one of the pills out of Madison's hands and swallowed it instantly.

Madison tucked Lily back into bed and headed to school so she could see her super rats for herself. After checking in on them and seeing for herself that everything was going perfectly she headed to her first class. On the way she got a phone call from Lily. Lily told her that she was already feeling much better and thanked her profusely. Madison's day was getting better by the minute. She day dreamed about being featured in Scientific Monthly as she entered her classroom.

Lily had been feeling like shit for what seemed like ages now. Everything the doctor gave her seemed to do absolutely nothing for her. Her doctor tested her for everything under the sun but all to no avail. Finally after spending way too much time and money on testing they diagnosed her with the common flu. There was nothing she could do about it except wait it out. Lily had gotten the flu several times before in her lifetime but never anything as horrible as this.

This was the worst possible week to be sick. Finals for the semester were due
