About this ebook
Parables is a collection of blog postings, random short observations and song lyrics gathered throughout the year 2016 ... a chronicle of the years thoughts so far.
Right Reverend John is John Edward LaFave. The "right reverend" part is a tongue-in-cheek pen and stage name John has used at various times to various ends. Though John actually was ordained and served as worship and associate pastor with Harvest House Church in Fenton, Michigan, many, many years ago. He also founded Global Mission Alliance a small third world non-profit that did relief work in several countries in the eighties/early nineties. John has retired from "the ministry" but has a hard time burying this "Right Reverend" dude.
John LaFave is a songster/artist/ author living in Nashville, Tennessee. He is the founder/owner of Stage Coup Records and Media.

SANCTUM…
FACEBOOK and TWITTER each have their charm, but are no place for real, reflective thought. At least that's how I see it. As an Artist and Writer I try to position my work to reach those who might appreciate and gain something from it. STAGE COUP RECORDS is the hub where I attempt to pull all that together and connect with other like-minded artists whose aims are similar. But, what do I really think? What are my real thoughts about art, culture, spirituality, current events and world affairs? SANCTUM is my personal space and place to express all of that. It may or may not be of interest to you, but if so, if it is … SANCTUM is where you'll find it.
As of this writing, 11.14.15, cable-news is filled with the accounts of last night's PARIS attacks ... heartbreaking. There seems to be very little space between this, the last or the next atrocity. Slogans, symbolism and cute links don't seem adequate when pondering such things. Posting and tweeting are awkward and insufficient. SANCTUM will be my place to vet, rant and express my thoughts.
SANCTUM also allows me to provide expanded liner notes for each song and album release, which should prove interesting, at least for me. Anyway, I look forward to it. So, here we go... blogging. SANCTUM will be under-construction for a bit, but we're up and running. I'm not waiting for perfection. Be patient, this is new to me, but I'm oh so eager. WELCOME.
RESONANCE, DUCT TAPE & TRUTH
One of the things that make for a quality acoustic instrument is the wood. A slight tap on a guitar's top says a lot. How does it resonate with the strum of the strings? Resonance is the vibration or sound produced in an object (the wood) in response to the vibration or sound of another object (the strings). If the wood responds well, it makes for a better instrument.
Humans are given a facility within us that resonates with truth. It's called common sense, conscience, intuition or spirit. It connects each of us to what is true and real. This facility today is suffering under a constant barrage of incoming assaults. Imagine each of these assaults as a strip of duct tape adhered to the surface of your instrument's wood. Eventually the instrument loses its connection to the sound of the strings and the quality of the instrument is lost.
We are being constantly pressured to ignore what we know and sense is true and to accept something else in its place. We can silence this faculty of common sense and conscience if we suppress and ignored it long enough, but the results are disastrous ... kind of like what we are seeing all around us today.
We need to fight for, guard and protect what's left of common sense. It is our lifeline to truth and reality. It is the wood we've been given. And if the wood responds well, it makes for a better quality instrument.

DIRECTION … A METAPHOR
Direction … We live on this planet with a working concept of it ... North, South, East and West. We all know what they mean and use them to reference our movement. Two of these are destinations. Two of these are directions. What does that mean? Well, if you set out on a path North and don't stop, you will eventually find yourself going South. Likewise, if you move in the direction of South, at some point you'll pass South and be traveling North. North and South are fixed points. East and West are not that, they are directions. Travel East and you will always be traveling East (though you will eventually repeat yourself). Likewise, move West and you will always be moving West. We live with and are accustomed to these parameters even though we hardly think of their meaning.
But if you were to leave this planet all of it means nothing. There is no North, South, East or West. In relation to this planet there is only back to it or away from it. Direction becomes something else relating to the larger universe.
Most of us don't actually leave this planet or its sphere of influence. We fly in planes. Some have left its gravitational pull for a time and returned. A hand full have even broken ties with earth, circled or landed on the moon and returned to tell us all what it was like.
Imagine all of
