Chapter One
I woke up at the crack of dawn and pulled on some clothes. Making my way to the bathroom where I splashed some water on my face. In the mirror I saw my reflection with my blonde straight hair with highlights and my Jade green eyes peering back at me.
I almost jumped out of my skin when Sasha my german shepherd started barking at me.
Shh...Okay I guess that means you are ready!
as she barked again.
So out the front door we went for our morning ritual walk
I saw the fog start lifting and was beginning to get nervous with anticipation for the upcoming Trial that morning!!
We walked for a wee bit until we couldn’t anymore.
Dang it is getting late...I got to get back to change!
I said nervously.
Rushing back home and jumped in the shower real fast and then changed into a skirt suit. I made my way to the parking lot to get into my Mercedes in red and drove myself to Civic Center Courthouse on Mc Allistar St.
I parked my car and made my way to the Courtroom where the trial was. I waved to the Attorney pleading our case. A few other people took the stand and then it was my turn.
Miss Brewer what is your position at Larkin Street?
Yes Mr. Warner...I’m the director of the center...and I’m also a licensed Physiologist
Miss Brewer are you aware that Ms. Blair...wants back custody of Michael Blair?
Yes I ‘m aware of the case!
And how do you feel?
Well I do know Ms. Blair has undergone extensive counseling...and well It is the state recommendation that she gets supervised visitation...and also the child is not to be removed from the children’s home...mentally he is not ready!
State rest!
he said.
I left the stand and the Judge called a recess until after lunch. I walked to a nearby deli for a quick bite before the recess was over. Along the way a man ran into me causing me to hit against a wall where he slammed me against the wall.
You know I think all Psychologist...are so messed up...I can’t believe you will give my ex back custody of our child...just because she claims to have quit using and walking the streets...my hearing was last week and all you assholes took him from me...I swear to god I will get even with all of you...especially you Miss High and mighty!
Then he started choking me until I passed out!
Miss Brewer omg are you okay?
Mr. Warner asked as he helped me up from the ground!"
Yes...I’m fine thanks!
and made my way back to the courts really shaken up. Finally, after a long day of court I stopped by the home to do some more work. Some time passed before I realized Johnny was standing before me.
Hey Johnny how are you...it’s kind of late buddy let me take you up to bed!
I know it just I had another bad dream again!
he said with tears.
Oh...honey I’m sorry sweets!
as I picked up a little five-year-old and took him up to his room.
I lay with Johnny for a while until I saw he was sound asleep. I stood up yawning as and grab the file I was working on.
Okay Josie let’s call it a night!
I walked past the night crew and back into my office to pack up my briefcase.
Good night Miss Josie!
said my night guard.
I smiled and waved as the elevator doors closed.
Slowly walked toward my car as I was listening to my voicemail on my cell.
Hiya...baby girl...just thought I would call to see how my favorite cousin is...well don’t forget dinner tomorrow with Ashley and me!
my cousin Ian said.
As I stood by my car I made an annoyed face and said
Whatever Ian...you know you used to be fun when you weren’t with her
thinking to myself as ever since then for some reason she just doesn’t like me.
Then out of nowhere I was slammed against my car door!!
Chapter Two
I tried to get up but the person kicked me in my face. Then all I saw was darkness after the person said something.
A few minutes later I woke to the ring of my cell phone!
Hello!
as I spit up some blood and felt the stinging of my eyes from the gash in my head as the blood flowed.
Hello!
Hey baby girl it is Ian...you okay?
Oh yeah I’m good!
my voice cracked as my tears began to flow.
Ian who are you talking to?
I heard Ashley in the background.
It’s Josie!
Oh well we are going to be late!
Josie are you sure you are okay...don’t tell me you are just leaving work!
Yes...umm...Ian I got to go!
Well okay baby girl...reminding you of tomorrow!
Yeah...thanks I can hardly wait!
After I hung up with Ian and got into my car and locked it and hung my head and cried.
After I pulled out of my space my head started pounding. Blood was still flowing from the gash on my head and my face was throbbing with pain. I pulled away and tried to see through my stinging eyes. Finally pulling up at my apartment and quickly grabbed my things and walked along my hall.
As I got up to my door I noticed it was cracked.
Oh man not again!
I stood outside my door when I noticed my Sasha laying on the ground.
But she wasn’t moving much so I called to her again and she still didn’t move.
Josie are you okay?
I heard as my old professor walked in.
I couldn’t stop crying as he touched my shoulder I started screaming as I back away.
Shh...it is Wayne!
"Wayne it is great to see you!’ I said through my tears.
What happened to you?
he asked as he saw my face.
You need to go to the hospital...I think you need stitches!
No...I’m fine!
Wayne started turning on my lights as I looked down again and saw Sasha was dead.
Oh god please no!
I will make some tea!
he said after he sat me on the couch.
He started the water and then took Sasha away to bury her.
Just after he washed his hands and fixed us some tea.
Thank you for coming...Wayne on such short noticed!!
No problem...so you going to tell me what happen?
Well I was threaten by one of my patients Dad today he knocked me against the wall and started choking me until I passed out and he told me he would get even with me!
Oh maybe you should tell the police...so you can get a restraining order...I’m afraid too!
Honey...really you should do something...umm do you have a first aid kit...I need to clean your face!
he said.
Yeah in my hall closet!
He came back and started washing my face tears came to my eyes as the alcohol stung my face. After we started talking about a case I needed his insight on. We talked until wee hours until we both fell asleep.
Chapter Three
We woke up early and went to breakfast and just hung out for the rest of the day. I drove Wayne back to the airport so he could catch the next flight to LA. I waited with Wayne until his flight was called. I gave him a kiss and thanked him for coming.
"No...thank you for last night!! He said with a smirk as he walked away.
Your welcomes...keep in touch!
and started walking away.
I walked out of the terminal and walked to my car and got in when my cell rang.
Hello!
Hey baby girl could you pick up a bottle of wine on your way?
Sure what kind would you like?
Umm...MonteVina White Zinfandel...thanks bye!
Sure things...see you in a few!
After we spoke I pulled into a grocery store and grabbed a couple of bottles and made my way back to my car. Within ten minutes was pulling up at Ian and Ashley’s. parked my car and took a deep breath.
Josie...be calm...take a deep breath...it is just for a couple of hours...you can handle this!
I said as I checked my look in my rear view mirror.
As I looked I noticed that even with make-up you could still see the blacking and bluing.
Just great Ian is going to flip out!
I took one last look and got out and remotely hit the lock button. I was about to knock on the door when Ian opened the door. One look was all it took and then all I heard was yelling.
What the hell happened to you?
Nothing...I’m okay!
OKAY...OKAY...have you see your face today...you call these black and blue bruises okay?
he yelled as he grabbed my arm and yanked me inside.
We walked over to the table where Ash gave a half-hearted hello.
Hi...Ash...how are you tonight?
I inquired.
I guess better then you...from the looks of it!
So tell me what the heck happened to you?
Ian went on.
Ian stop ...I don’t want to talk about it...let’s just eat so I can go home!
I said on the brink of tears.
Well you better tell me now!
he hissed as he glared at me.
It was a parent of one of my patients...he went off on me...yesterday during court...and then last night I think!
You didn’t go to the police...tell me now what happened!
he screamed.
I was on my way to a deli near the courthouse...when he shoved me...whilst choking me and I caused me passed out...then when I left work late last night...he must have been following me for weeks...he threw me against my car...and I fell to the ground ...and I tried to get up and get away ...the person kicked me in my face...and then it went black...and then I woke and hurried home...where Sasha was dead...thank god Wayne was there!
WHAT...you were with Wayne girl haven’t you learned...from your past yet Josie ...omg I can’t believe you are seeing him again!
