    Three o’clock in the morning

Jessica was walking towards me, like she always did in my dreams. She still looked as beautiful as ever. She was forever in my memory and dreams that happy and enchanting nineteen year old, she would always be to me.

She wore her favorite red sundress, with white polka dots, on her right hand a gold wedding band. Something was different about her this time. She seemed almost sad.

Jessica, you look beautiful. I’ve missed you so much.

Brad, my love, I’ve missed you too. But now, Brad, things will be different. I’m sorry, my love, but this will be the last time we will be able to see each other. It’s time you let go of me and what we had, so long ago. Your life my dear sweet husband is about to change. The path you will take will change your life and will bring you, what you deserve the most…happiness. There is someone who will heal your heart, as you will heal hers. Follow your heart my love.

No, Jessica, I don’t to forget you or what we had. There is no one for me, but you.

Brad, I will always hold our love in my heart. A heart can hold love for more than one person. You have so much love to share. Share it with her and your children that the two of you will have. I will cherish our memories always. I will cherish the love that we shared, sweetheart, for all eternity.

With that, she leaned forward and for the first time, in almost thirteen years, touched me. Her lips were like butterfly wings on my cheek. She pulled back and cupped her hand on my cheek.

    Be happy, Brad.

A moment later, she was gone. `The pain of her absence was like a void in my heart. The pain of it took my breath away. She was gone…forever this time. I knew I would never see her again.

Sitting straight up in bed. I tried to catch my breath as my heart pounding wildly. Just the thought of never seeing Jessica again made me gasped for air. The last thread that had bound me to Jessica for so many years, had been severed.

    Late afternoon

No Laurie, I’m not using a dating service and that’s final. I don’t need a man in my life. I’ve taken care of myself for Eleven years, now and I’ll be totally fine if I never find someone.

Come on, Katie, I know you want to have kids. You’ve told me that you don’t want to be a single parent. Just try it and see what happens. Look at it this way, those guys can’t be any worse than what you’ve been dating.

I rolled my eye to the heavens. Here I am Katie Meyers, twenty-nine years old and man-less. I didn’t need a man in my life. I was a successful woman, who could take care of herself. I thought for a few moments and decided I needed to get away for a while. I think a vacation would clear my mind and help me make some serious life choices.

I make fairly good money and if I decided to, in the next few years, want a child, I’ll adopt. But I refuse to settle on just anyone because I want a child. You know what, Laurie? I’m off for the next two weeks. I think I’m going to take a little vacation. You know, get away from Seattle for a while, so I can clear my head. I’ve always wanted to stay in a Bed and Breakfast. I think I’ll do some research online on B & B’s in Washington.

Would you like some company, I could ask Jeremy if he would…

I stopped her, before she could finish her statement. I needed this time to think and recharge my mental battery.

Thanks, Laurie, but I think I need some me, alone time, to decided what I want for the rest of my life.

Well, if you change your mind, give me a call, okay

Laurie stood up and walked toward my front door. She turned around at the door and gave me a hug.

You call me, once in a while and let me know you’re okay, plus keep up-to-date on what you figure out.

I will, thanks for coming over and give Jeremy, a big hug for me.

I will, talk to you soon and be safe.

With a smile, Laurie walked out the door and I locked it behind her. I walked into the living room and picked up our empty coffee cups. After placing the cups in the dishwasher, I made my way to my guest bedroom / office and turned on my laptop.

I sat down at my desk and typed in B & B in Washington into Google search. A large list came up and after about thirty minutes of looking, one beautiful B & B finally caught my attention. It was a huge log cabin style home on Lake Chelan. I hadn’t been to Lake Chelan since I was a child. I clicked on the details, then images, of at least two dozen pictures, popped up before my eyes. The images ranged from all the seasons to different special occasions and there were even some images of a winter wedding. This place was perfect,
