    Retribution - Ashli Foxx

    Chapter 1

    Meela

I squinted for proper vision as I pulled slowly into the parking space. The sun beamed heavily on my windshield obscuring my sight. I took my time and crammed my car into the assigned parking lot at Lexington Special Clinic Office, clocking myself to have arrived precisely at 9:45 a.m.

Amber’s appointment was at 10:15 a.m. I knew that routine already, I had thirty minutes. I checked my makeup one last time ran my fingers through my short, curly cut to let them fall in their right place.

Perfect. I mouthed to the image of myself in my rearview before I pushed the door open to stepped out into the sunny morning

I walked into the foyer of the Lexington OB-GYN to a few ladies already waiting. I signed in at the desk, then looked around like a predator for common prey. I found her sitting off to herself, busied with the modern habit of going through her phone.

She was pretty. Her complexion glowed more than mine, but I felt no insecurities at sight.

We were roughly the same height. I had done my checks. I wondered how she looked so much like I did, we had never met until serendipity had brought us to cross paths. In fact, the only different thing I perceived about us had been the colors of our hair. I checked my watch. I had spent five minutes on assessments.

Twenty-five minutes left. I made my move toward her.

The waiting is always the dreadful part, I said to nobody in particular as I settled into the seat closest to her.

She lifted her head from her phone. She turns to me with mild confusion at the thought of a stranger who spoke to her.

Uhm, she mumbled, folding her lips over each other.

Hello, I said with a smile, extending friendliness.

Her chocolate-almond pupils beamed as they danced frantically, struggling to reciprocate the niceness.

I’m Meela, I whispered, extended my hand to shake hers.

I’m Amber, she replied, a smile fully established on her face. Hmm, you look too famil—

Familiar? I interjected. I get that a lot from people; they go 'damn, I could have sworn I knew you when I tell them I just moved to the Oaks a few weeks ago.

Everybody thinks they have seen me at Summer Lake, but no. I don't think we have ever met. If we had, it had to be a long time ago. Can barely tell these things."

A dry smile went with my submission, cold enough not to frighten her into questioning my senility but sufficient to keep the conversation going.

Well, we know each other now, right?

She nervously giggled as I nodded.

Yeah. We both want the same things now, don't we? My brows jumped playfully. A baby. She looked puzzled like a child before letting out a hearty laugh.

    I laughed too.

Want to know something funny? I live in the Oaks too, she said and gave her address. I replied with mine.

No way in hell! she blurted. That's just across the street from my house!

    Oh wow. I harmonize.

Your house is so close. If you had had your ears to the ground, you would have heard my husband and me trying…. Her lips spread on her face, suggesting something dirty. She slowly nodded to an unheard rhythm.

Same, I revealed, absorbing the beautiful details that she regaled me with in such a short time of us meeting each other.

You know— She was about to continue when a nurse called.

    Samuel.

I checked my wristwatch. I was short by two minutes.

That's my call, she said while she tapped the back of my hand. She walked in the direction of the nurse, who ushered her in through a corridor.

I reclined in my seat whipped out my phone to lounge as I waited for Amber when the nurse at the desk signaled for my attention.

What'd you say your name was again, ma'am? she whispered, eyeing me with weighted suspicion.

West, I replied, dizzied by the simple question.

Can't seem to find any appointments for you on here, West, she replied while she adjusted her frame over the counter so that she appeared bigger than she was.

Jame… James, I stuttered, embarrassed. Try James. Newly married. Forgetful sometimes. I lied.

She took her eyes off me and went through the roster.

Nothing still, she said. I heaved, tapping my forehead in a game of pretense. She eased into a smile.

I understand, ma'am. Perhaps you got the clinic confused with the one across the street. It happens. Know what I'll do for you? If a cancellation comes up, I'll slip you in. Good enough? she offered.

My eyes lit up. I mouthed thanks as I returned to my seat.

I was barely seated when Amber made her way from the back.

Hi, Meela, she said. Since you're new here and we’re neighbors, do you mind if I invite you to dinner? Something for a new neighbor.

I took my time and nodded. Sounds like fun.

Great. So what do you say? How does eight sound? Amber asked.

Like a plan, I replied almost immediately.

Great. Gotta run now. I've got an appointment someplace else, she said and bounced childishly out of sight, waving at me as she went.

She was out of sight when I picked myself from the chair and saw the nurse at the desk look at me strangely.

Just got a call. Sorry, I explained, not caring if she bought it anyway as I stepped back into the open day. I took a long sniff of the breeze and sauntered to my car, satisfied at what I got.

I drove home from the clinic, only stopping once to get my prescription antidepressant from the drug store and took my shower to clear the day's weight. I took my pills in the shower, just as I had for over a year. Only this time, I realized how close I was to actualizing my vengeance. I had been lucky with this house. Finding it just after it had been put up for sale, a more convenient location could it not be.

I put on my body lotion that had the faint smell of mangos and cucumbers, just as I had been wearing when Ethan was killed. I decided on my black and white shorts with a jacket set with my gold heels and jewelry to match. I grabbed the wine, my purse and headed across the street as soon as it was seven.

As I pressed the doorbell I made out the silhouette of a couple behind the door.

Hi, Meela. So happy you could join us, Amber said while spreading her arms wide for an embrace. I engaged her.

I hope red is fine? I asked calmly as I handed her the bottle at the door.

Yes, yes, it is! I love red, she replied as she escorted me into her home and straight toward the dining area, Michael, this is Meela. Meela, meet Michael, my husband. Amber introduced us with a flourish.

Nice to meet you. You have a beautiful home. I complimented Michael graciously, and he blushed.

My wife decorates everything. I just write the check. Michael noted.

"Michael!" Amber cried with embarrassment. We all burst into laughter as she poured the wine.

So Meela, what do you do? Are you married?

Michael shot a rapid series of questions as we settled down to the table. I swallowed quickly and gathered my thoughts.

I’m currently on a break. I’m trying to piece my life back together after losing my baby a year ago, I explained. I was a kindergarten teacher, though. I took a year off to get my mind right.

I’m so sorry, he moaned, eyes wide in alarm. I didn't know. Amber hadn't told me.

What didn't I tell you? Amber quizzed as she rejoined us, walking in with the food.

She’d made shrimp and sausage scampi, homemade garlic bread twists, and caesar salad. Everything smells so good, I confessed to her, and she thanked me.

That Meela lost a baby. You could have warned me before I put my damn foot in my mouth, babe, he complained.

I chuckled. It’s alright now. My fiance—Danny, is a trucker. We are trying to have a baby for the past three months. It’s a little complicated when he's always on the road, but we manage. Amber, this food, it's everything! I veered from the conversation to compliment her dish.

She thanked me again for my kind words.

How long have you been a doctor? I asked between swallows.

Eight years, a general surgeon, he answered. Just a year ago, I started my clinic.

I bet being a doctor is very demanding, huh?

It is. You’re losing sleep to keep people alive. It’s rewarding, but it’s exhausting. Having my clinic, I get off the same time every night.

I can understand. I observed. May I use your bathroom, Amber? I asked.

Yes. Down the hall by the staircase. It will be on our right, she replied.

    Okay, thanks.

I got up and walked down the hallway as instructed.

There were pictures all over the walls of them from high school, college, and their wedding. I reminisced about my life with Ethan and how short our time was. I sighed with grief.

I noticed that the bathroom was opposite their bedroom. I looked down the hall for approaching persons as I heard them flirting with each other in the dining room.

So I walked in and paced around, looking at the things displayed on her dressers and chest.

I lay across the bed and thought to myself, time to take what was mine. I placed the hidden camera at the lamp's base on the nightstand as I went through the drawers. I saw Michael’s boxers. I took one out that was gray and red. I inhaled his scent, drowning in the heady sensation it gave me. I couldn't wait to make him mine. I place his boxers back in the drawer, and I walked into the master bath. I looked in the drawer on the sink and noticed Amber’s fertility drugs. I emptied her pills down the toilet and headed back to the front.

I set the other camera in the living room, facing the dining room and the hall, before making my way back to them.

I'm a mess when it gets late, you guys, I said and looked worried.

    No. Already? they exclaimed.

This gathering was fun. We must do this again, they said as I smiled courteously.

Thank you for having me and welcoming me to the neighborhood. We will do this again soon, okay! I promise.

They both were going heavy on the wine bottle, so I grabbed my purse and walked back across to my house alone.

Once I stepped in, I took off my heels and lay on my bed. I turned on the TV to see if my hidden cameras worked.

    Perfect. I thought to myself.

I watched them roll from the dining room in each other's arms, consumed by wine through the hallway, and I was grateful I had a camera in their bedroom. I observed them have sex with lust on my skin as I began to play with my pussy. My pussy pulsed under my touch, and my heart pounded slowly.

I soaked my fingers with my juices, dipping them in and out as sensuously as I could to the view of Michael fucking Amber. I took my shirt off, and I twirled my hard nipples as I fingered myself slowly.

I rubbed the juices over my ass as they seeped out of my pussy, and the dizzying aroma of fleshliness overcame the room.

I rubbed my clit and fingered myself until I saw Michael cum inside Amber after a few minutes. He was cumming, and I was too.

My breath stopped as I struggled with the powerfulness that swept through me.

I winced as pleasure came home, and the world felt suitable for all of ten seconds. I dried my fingers on my sheets, too exhausted to pick myself from the bed to the bathroom.

I pulled Ethan’s picture from my bedside, kissed him, and curled up until I fell asleep.

    Chapter 2

    Amber

Babe, did you see the new tie I bought the other day? Micheal asked, coming down the hall. He buttoned his olive shirt up his broad, muscular body, without even the slightest attention paid to the activity. His fingers fumble the buttons like small, dedicated instruments receiving subconscious instructions from his mind. I can't find it.

It’s in the fourth drawer, I answered without much thought.

Thanks, baby, he said, immediately going back in the direction from where he came.

Meela and Juli are coming by after you leave to meet each other, I called out, sauntering slowly after him admiring his firm butt. The temptation to smack his naughty piece of male muscle arose. I grinned to suppress it. He had to be at work. I swallowed my thoughts and continued.

I’m so happy I have a friend who’s going through these same fertility treatments.

You told me none of this, babe. I would have loved to be by your side when they come. Michael hinted without turning, heading straight for the room in search of his new tie.

I blushed. It was not unlike Micheal to say these sweet reassuring things, but I got the same butterflies every time he said it.

It had such an effect on me, I flushed with sheepish joy. I coughed to clear myself of the skin-tingling sensation.

I know you can't be at my doctor appointments all the time and that you have a lot of things to do, I rapped, hoping it was a sufficient sentence to explain my position to offer an IOU for the thought spared.

Right, he gruffed and turned left into the room. I followed.

Juli is supportive, but she isn't trying to get pregnant, so she doesn't understand the emotional toll of the process, I said as I walked
