What’s it about?
We tend to think of the two sexes in opposition, maintaining that men and women are naturally different due to their biological make-up. There is even scientific evidence that supports this widely held belief. It claims that the way our brains function differs according to our gender.
However, the real truth is that no one has been able to definitively prove that males and females are genetically hardwired to think, feel, and act in a certain way. While many studies have been performed, their results are often misconstrued or misrepresented, in turn reinforcing the popular and longstanding idea that gender makes a difference.
As a result, we have become so accustomed to believing in socially constructed gender differences that we trust in it as a concept without thinking. And while we no longer claim that one gender is superior to the other, and want equality for the sexes, we still maintain that men and women are somehow different. It is this idea that keeps gender stereotypes alive and thriving in spite of our modern sensibilities.
