It has a provocative title and dedication (“For everyone who blocked me on Twitter”), but your book is evidence-based, nuanced and compassionate. Why did you, a liberal “sex positive, non-traditionalist gay rights supporter”, write a book that delves into this most active cultural fault line?

I didn’t think the title and dedication would be considered that provocative. “The End of Gender” refers to the fact that science-denial pertaining to gender is prevalent in every area of life today. It is being promoted by scientific and medical organisations, public policy, media and tech and is leading to our inability to understand gender accurately.

I wrote my book to counter this misinformation and to answer the many questions my readers have been asking. Each chapter draws on scientific studies to refute a particular myth, such as the idea that gender and biological sex are spectrums, that gender is a social construct and that children with gender dysphoria should transition.
