Knox closed his eyes and murmured his approval as Mykala covered his lips with her own. She tasted so sweet, so feminine. He never wanted the moment to end.

I have a surprise for you, she whispered when she finally pulled away.

Oh yeah?

She flashed him a seductive smile and lifted her naked body off of his. Yeah. Pushing back the sheets, she leaned forward and placed butterfly kisses on his neck and shoulder, slowly making her way down the length of his body.

God, this woman was amazing. Knox threaded his fingers through her jet-black hair and watched as her soft mouth moved over his skin. He didn't know how he had gotten so lucky. It was hard to believe that she still wanted to be with him after everything that happened.

When Mykala learned that the clan chief, Nathan, wanted to send Knox away, she confronted the elder bear and scolded him for turning his back on his friend. It was sweet of her, if not a little misguided. It took a long time to make her understand that this was the shifter way. Since Knox could no longer change into his bear, this was what was best for everyone—at least for a little while.

Mykala insisted on moving with him, of course, so the next day they packed up their things and made their way out to Nova Scotia. They had been here for over a week and on the surface things couldn’t be better. Neither one of them mentioned his lack of powers, but it was always there, like the silent elephant in the room. Mykala was convinced that Knox would eventually regain his shifter energy. At first, Knox believed that too. Now he wasn’t so sure.

What would happen if he never regained his powers? He suspected that Myakala would tire of him. She had fallen for his inner bear and still longed for the primal, impulsive shifter she had grown to love. He was afraid that, with only his human side, this lovely woman would eventually find him lacking and move on.

No. Possessiveness surged inside Knox, causing his desire to strengthen. He couldn’t let Mykala leave him. They’d been through far too much together. Still, he knew that he couldn’t force her to stay if she was determined to go.
