About this ebook

When pirates attack young, inexperienced Anabelle’s town, she remembers enough to beg for parlay, a meeting with the ruffians’ leader. But when Anabelle is brought before Pirate Captain Garrick, she realizes that she needs to bargain for her freedom - and her only bargaining chip is her young, pure body!

Normally, such a decision would be unthinkable. But Captain Garrick is heart-stoppingly handsome, and Anabelle can feel her attraction to the man. Maybe it’s time for this young maiden to throw caution to the seaward wind - and offer up her booty to the pirate...

"So what can I bargain? I asked, feeling my heart once again rise up towards my throat.  I mean, as a merchant, I have plenty of money back in my coffers-"

But Garrick was already shaking his head.  Not back there anymore, he warned me.  Not any longer, and you don’t have it with you now.

I was definitely back in hot water, I realized.  Or, even worse, I’d never left it in the first place.  So then what can I bargain with for my freedom?

For a moment, Garrick didn’t reply.  But his eyes dropped down, looking at my figure.  I followed his gaze, and realized that with my thin nightgown and even thinner slip beneath, every inch of my body’s lines was on display.

I felt myself blushing, but then I looked back up at Garrick, at this strong, handsome man that I’d thought lost from my life forever.  And I suddenly knew what I wanted to do.  What I had to do, to earn my freedom and safety.

"Anabelle, you don’t have to-" the man began, as I stepped forward.

But I reached up and put one finger ever so lightly against his lips, feeling the slight scruff of his facial hair where he hadn’t quite shaved evenly as I silenced him.  Gazing into his eyes, I took a deep, shuddering breath.

    And then I smiled.

    "I want to," I replied…

    CHAPTER 1

I heard the sound of a heavy blow hitting our front door, along with the crack of splintering wood.  I knew that it wouldn’t be long until the ruffians had smashed apart the heavy wooden barricade and managed to gain entry.

In the darkness, I clutched the cutlass in my hands closer to my body.  I might be shivering with fear, but I was still determined not to go down without at least putting up a fight.

I thought back to what my best friend had taught me, before he’d left to go sail with the navy.  Remember, Anabelle, he had instructed me.  Despite what you read in those ridiculous romance novels, it’s not about fancy flashing blades.  Most sword work is very simple.  Keep the blade between you and your enemy, don’t let them knock it out of the way, and stick it in them if they get too close.

We had played with sticks, back when we were still neighbors, dancing around in our back yard and laughing
