Representation and Reaction in Movies

We are constantly striving for GOOD representation. Whether it’s for people of colour, disabled people, neurodivergent people or queer people. Where are the lines for representation and why certain people don’t cross those lines, and what happens when said lines are crossed? I’ll be discussing different genres.

Comedy

Comedy movies, shows, anime and books tend to be under fire quite a bit, especially ones that came out prior to 2015/2016. During that time, offensive jokes were still very normal. People still thought saying slurs were normal and funny and so many pieces of media got some sort of pass.

Let’s take the iconic The Hangover trilogy as an example. I watched all three movies, and I have to say, I enjoyed them. They were funny and fun to watch. But, a massive gripe I had with this series wasn’t the vulgarity, but with the use of slurs.
