Quitting vs. Habit Management
There are other books on how to use habits to your potential, to help you in business and stuff like that. However, as I checked through those books—their authors mainly point everything toward some mystical business or career improvement or towards completely wiping out all the little things we enjoy: eating not necessarily healthy but tasty foods, smoking cigarettes, consumption of alcohol, etc. This creates fears, like: I will never experience it again!
or I will never be able to taste it again!
and so on. With the anti-habit philosophy there is no need to completely wipe out all those little pleasures we have in the world, even though they are bad for you. The idea mainly is in limiting and managing bad habits to be a happier person mentally, to prolong your life physically, and to actually prolong the ability of being able to consume the spoils of modern life,
instead of quickly destroying yourself (getting in trouble at work, creating conflicts within your family or with your mate, feeling bad about yourself, etc.). Quitting sucks!
You don’t have to suddenly and abruptly quit everything, wipe it all out and live a boring, fake life, lying to yourself on a daily basis that you beat it and now you’re a different person—you are not. There is no magical way of protecting yourself from everything bad, as most of the things you experience in life, especially repetitive and on a regular basis (did somebody say habits??) are bad for you and will eventually kill you. Eating food, breathing crappy air, stressful jobs, smoking, drinking, recreational drugs, loving, grieving, studying, becoming all you can be,
doing extreme sports, etc.—all of these awesome things will have a negative effect on you, regardless of your lifestyle.
We are going to adjust our current habits in a way that will benefit us—not the other
beneficiary, be it our laziness or the tobacco industry.

As you may know, there is a big problem with sudden changes—it may end up as a disaster in the short-run, getting you even further down the hole. For example, you may feel like complete shit on Tuesday with a mental hangover from the weekend and you radically want to quit everything now, immediately. You hate yourself and can’t understand why didn’t you stop on Sunday, at the right moment. Based on the Anti-Habit Equilibrium Chart (see Pic. 1 above), you are at the Guilt condition right now, and thinking radically and
