Ten Great Beams - J.D. Stonebridge
Chapter One
Painful and despair inducing. That was how Tony would describe his condition so far. Not so long ago, he fell through a broken floor, crashed his back into god-knows-what and slammed his left leg on the floor of some basement passage.
The pain was overwhelming, so much that tears welled up in his eyes and he could only do so much to stop the screaming. What made it far worse was the fact that several Sun Children surrounded him, standing still, looking down on him with those stoic masks.
He still had his stun baton with him, but what could he do? He could probably electrocute one of them, but that means six more to go. At least he wasn’t going down without a fight.
C’mon!
he dared, Have at me!
There shall be no such conflict.
The owner of the voice came from behind the Sun Children. Tony could not forget that voice, it was a voice that had held a promise to him some time ago and now, that person was approaching him.
Sun Child, the avatar that started the riots and anarchism all over the states. He approached Tony, wearing an immaculately white cloak and the sun mask that seemingly glowed yellow, compared to the minions. Tony had half the mind to wonder if they were mannequins like his first encounter with him.
Settle down, Anthony. You are safe.
The words rang true in Tony’s head, despite his best efforts to resist it. It would be much better for him if he didn’t ask for a fight; his brain demanded that he survive, rather than go out with a bang. With that decided, Tony felt the pain of his leg once more.
He grunted. He tried to focus on Sun Child but the pain was overwhelming. A grimace had formed where his teeth gritted as Sun Child approached him.
Calm yourself, I’ll help you,
Sun Child said quietly.
What’s... going to happen to me?
Tony asked with some effort, wondering if surrendering would mean more pain or torture.
Sun Child paused. He gave a step back, clearly noticing the distrust in Tony’s face. I suppose I have much to explain to gain your affirmation,
he said. Do you remember my pride?
Tony’s eyebrows raised for a second. Yes, he did remember that during the events of Sun Child’s attack. During their confrontation with the strange Prime, he said that in order for them to trust him, Tony should consider his pride as a Prime. Being an ancient being offers a kind nobility, one that Tony understands.
I do,
he said between his grimaces.
Then you will remember,
Sun Child stated. That, my promise to you, withholds.
The promise, Tony remembered,
