Her Love Saves Him, The Streets Made Him 2 - Sharifa D.

    Chapter 1

Alow, faint beeping was all that Tanny could hear as she pried her heavy eyelids open. The light in the room felt as though she was staring straight into the sun. When the fog of the pain killers finally faded and she realized where she was, one single tear came to Tanny’s eyes as she quickly blinked it away. It all felt like a huge nightmare. For a second, all Tanny could remember was yelling at Tig in his club and then finally, like a ton of bricks, it all came crashing back to her. Tanny lifted her sore arms, that felt as though they were attached to a thousand tubes, to the back of her head where she felt the rectangular-shaped bald patch with staples in the middle of it.

Motherfucker, Tanny mustered quietly. She could remember everything; she was pretty sure that Dex was the one that had hit her in the head. When Tig and Dex had been staging her apartment to look like a break in, Tanny was conscious, her eyes had been swollen shut so she couldn’t see anything and she was in so much pain she couldn’t move. But Tanny had heard everything around her. It was as if her hearing had been heightened because she didn’t have her other senses, and she knew Dex’s voice when she heard it. Tanny’s body was healing quickly and she couldn’t wait for the second that she felt well enough to leave.

Nice to see you awake Ms. Landon. How are you feeling? Tanny’s nurse asked as she walked into the room.

Sore but not too bad. Do you know when I will be able to get out of here? Tanny asked.

Oh honey, it’s going to be a while. If you had some family we could call then we would release you sooner, but you’re going to need some help when you’re out of here, the nurse said looking at Tanny with concern.

I don’t have any family and I can’t afford to stay in here too long, so is there any way I could speak with the doctor? Tanny asked, starting to get slightly annoyed.

Well he’s not around just yet honey, but as soon as he is back I’ll send him in. But there has been a handsome man claiming to be your boyfriend coming here to see you but because of the circumstances of how you were found, we couldn’t let anyone in until you woke up to identify him, the nurse said. Instantly a feeling of fear washed over Tanny, and all she could think was, was it Tig or Dex coming to the hospital to finish the job? Listen, just rest. I’ll have your lunch brought up and then I will be back later on with the doctor, the nurse said before exiting the room. As soon as the nurse was gone, Tanny sat straight up in the bed and pulled out all of the tubes connected to IV’s, and she frantically looked around the hospital room before pulling off the heart monitor. Standing to her feet, Tanny realized the extent of her injuries. She pulled up her hospital gown to find black and blue all covering her entire torso, rib area. Light as a feather, she grazed her smooth fingertips over her rib injuries and winced in pain.

Fuck, Tanny whispered to herself. Even with all the pain she was in, Tanny, as quick as she could, made her way to the door. Peeking out and looking left to right, Tanny made sure no one was around. She shuffled her feet as fast as she could down the cold hallway as goosebumps popped up all over her body. Tanny saw a nurse exiting a hospital locker room and walked in the opposite direction. When she looked in and was sure there was no one inside, Tanny quickly went into the hospital locker room and found an open locker, grabbing the clothes inside. In that very second, she heard an alarm going off and a nurse’s voice over the speaker

Code blue, we have a code blue, room two eighteen! That was Tanny’s room. With her nerves on a thousand, Tanny quickly put the clothes on, wincing in pain every time she had to lift her arms over her head or bend down to pull the pants up her bruised legs. Securing the cap she found over her disheveled hair, Tanny peeked out the door once again looking left and right. Almost halfway out the door, Tanny heard a familiar voice that stopped her dead in her tracks and caused a chill to go up her spine.

Look bitch, I need to see my girlfriend. I’m sick of you motherfuckers giving me the run around! Tig shouted to the nurse he was talking to. Tanny wished she had taken the scalpel out of the hospital room so she could slit his throat from ear to ear, but she knew in her current state she needed to get out of that hospital, because he could have easily overpowered her and killed her in an instant to keep her from telling the cops what he did to her. But Tanny knew better. Tig had heavy connections in the police department and Tanny had a more sinister plan for her ex-lover. He would pay for every bruise, gash, and staple in her body.

Tanny was lucky to find a fifty-dollar bill in the jacket pocket of the clothes she had on. She quickly got to the nearest main road outside of the University of Miami Hospital and hailed a cab. Sitting in the back, she felt relief after being on her feet with all of her wounds, and then the pain started to kick in so she shuffled through the jacket pocket for the bottle of OxyContin she grabbed from her hospital room and downed two pills, not caring that she didn’t have water. The cab driver eyed her in concern.

Are you alright miss? the cabbie asked in a thick Haitian accent. For some reason, instantly Tanny broke down in tears. She couldn’t stop them; they just poured down her face as she thought of the past five days.

Please, I need you to take me to ten forty Ocean Way, Tanny cried, giving the cabbie her address. Turning around, he looked at her with sorry eyes.

Don’t worry miss, I’m going to help you out. I lost my daughter a few years back, and you look around her age, the cabbie said, almost looking like he was going to cry himself.

Oh, I’m so sorry, thank you so much, Tanny said through sobs. Driving to Tanny’s house, the driver told her his story.

Yeah, I came here with my wife and daughter almost ten years ago now. We settled in little Haiti and we were happy, then one day when my daughter was coming home from school, someone take her, they just take her, the older Haitian man said with tears running down his face. I think my wife never really forgive me for not picking our ti fi ti bebe (baby girl) up that day; she leave me last year, the driver said with sorrow dripping from his every word. He pulled up in front of Tanny’s building. Her car was still parked in its usual spot and when she looked up at her door she saw that it was boarded up with yellow evidence tape over it.

Sir, that’s my apartment up there. I just need to get inside and grab a few things and then find somewhere to go. Do you think you could help me get upstairs and inside? Tanny said with pleading eyes. She felt like the driver looked skeptical. Please, you can have whatever you want out of the apartment and if you take me to my bank after, I can give you as much money as you need, Tanny pled. The driver held up his hands.

My name is Frantz, and listen to me, I don’t want anything from you. I told you, you remind me of my ti fi ti bebe, so anything you need I help you. Frantz paused for a moment. I own rental property, you stay there and heal, whoever you running from will never find you there, Frantz said taking Tanny’s hand. He got out of the car and opened her door, putting his hand out to help her get out. Tanny just stared at him for a moment. She didn’t even know this man from a hole in the wall but he was willing to help her and was being so nice. Tanny didn’t have any more trust left in her but at this point, she didn’t have any other choice. Frantz helped her get out of the car and helped her up the stairs to her front door. He pulled the tape from the door and pushed the makeshift wooden door open. When Tanny saw the state of her apartment she couldn’t believe it; it looked like a tornado had blown through and destroyed everything. Tanny snapped out of her shock and made her way to her bedroom where she pulled her Louis Vuitton duffle bags and suitcases from her closet. As fast as she could, she threw all the contents of her dresser drawers and closets into the bags. Frantz grabbed some garbage bags from her kitchen and started to throw all her shoes and handbags inside, then he started to take everything down to the car. When Tanny was sure he was busy taking everything down to the car, she went back into her room closing the door behind her and going deep into her closet where a small safe was hidden. Tanny put the combo in and was relieved to find all of her money she had stashed inside, seven hundred and fifty-two thousand dollars she packed into a small Gucci bag, and just as she walked out the bedroom, Frantz was walking back inside. Are you ready Ms..? Frantz paused, not knowing Tanny’s name.

Tanny, my name is Tannequa Landon, but everyone calls me Tanny. Tanny thought to give Frantz a fake name but for some reason, she trusted him. It was the look in his eyes, one that she had never seen in Tig’s. Yes, I’m ready, Tanny told him. Frantz drove fifty minutes from Tanny’s house to Delray Beach, where they pulled up into a beautiful luxury apartment complex and Tanny was a bit confused.

This is where your rental property is? Tanny questioned.

Yes Ms. Tanny, I bought this place right before I lose my ti fi ti bebe for my family but everything was so hectic that I never moved in and then after my wife left me, I didn’t see the point so I put it up for rent but no one take it yet, so you stay until you heal, Frantz told Tanny with a slight smile. He took two of her bags and made his way up to the concierge’s desk where he told the security Tanny was his daughter and would be moving in. They went up to the apartment and when they got inside it was beautiful. Marble covered all the floors and countertops and there were floor-to-ceiling windows and the place was immaculately furnished.

Wow, was all that Tanny could say as she walked around the two-bedroom apartment.

Ok, I leave you to get settled. This is my number if you need anything. I will be back with grocery and to check on you tomorrow; text me if you need anything in particular, Frantz said in his thick accent. When he was about to walk out of the door, Tanny walked over to him as fast as she could and hugged him tightly, surprising Frantz. Tanny was so overwhelmed with all the help this stranger was giving her. She had her doubts but there was just something in his eyes and the way he spoke to her that made her trust him.

Thank you so, so much, Tanny said while softly crying. Frantz softly rubbed her back. Instantly calming her in a way that only a father could.

Ooh don’t you worry ti fi, you rest. Everything will be ok, Frantz told Tanny sincerely.

Wait a second; let me get something. Tanny went into her Gucci duffle bag and pulled out a stack of one thousand dollars. She walked over to Frantz and put it in his hand and he looked at her with a twisted face.

No, no, no, ti fi you keep this. I don’t need your money. And with that said, Frantz walked out of the apartment leaving Tanny stuck and wondering who was this cab driver who seemed to be her guardian angel.

Frantz walked to his cab and hopped in and just sat there for a moment before putting his hands together and closing his eyes.

Ti fi ti bebe I met someone today and something about her reminded me of you so much I had to help her. I just feel your spirit in her and I know the Lord has sent her to me. I miss you dearly my love, until we meet again. Frantz would often speak to his daughter through prayer. He felt like Tanny was a sign from God and his daughter and he was determined to help her in any way that he could. Frantz knew to Tanny it probably seemed weird him helping her out the way he was, but to him it felt natural and when he looked at her, he just knew she needed his help. All of the bad
