Just a heartbeat away

Thundering downstairs, I screamed to my partner John and daughter Hayley, then 22.

‘Danny’s been hurt!’ I yelled.

Rushing outside, I saw my son on the ground, blood pouring down his face.

A group of teenage boys legged it, Hayley chasing after them.
