I have an honours degree in Mathematics from the Open University and taught in Scotland before gaining an M.A. in English Literature. I taught English to O Level International GCSE Cambridge students for 14 years in Pakistan and was Head of Department there. My Haiku on Cultural Diversity is published in UNESCO’S Cultural Report 2000. My story of Big Samson The Big Lion (in a much shorter form) was accepted for publication by Oxford University Press, but never published for technical reasons. Currently, I have published about 12 e-books on the teaching of English, novels, short stories and poetry. My Spelling book was ranked number 1 in its category on Amazon. The Barber and the Elephant
Once in the heart of India lived a very powerful king. He was a good king, but people were afraid of his great powers.
Now one day the king needed a haircut. His own barber was ill, so he ordered one from a nearby village. The new barber pleased the king so much with his jokes and stories that the king gave him one of his favourite elephants as a present. The barber could not contain his joy. He almost hugged the king but managed to control himself.
The barber rode proudly home on his mighty elephant. How amazed the villagers would be when they would see him riding such a magnificent creature! A simple barber owned an elephant while the village head only had a horse.
But little did the barber know what problems he would face. The great elephant had to be fed, and it consumed a vast quantity of food three times a day. Very soon, the barber had no money left. What should he do? His wife told him to sell the elephant, and he did.
