Social Media Marketing for Australian Small Businesses
()
About this ebook
The ultimate how-to guide for any Aussie who would like to know how to make social media marketing work for their business.
This book is here to answer your real questions and give you direction (specific and practical). It’s written for Aussie small businesses, with an understanding of your workload, your skills, your budget, your time constraints and your unique industry and customers. It’s as if you’re hiring me as your marketing consultant, and I’m going through with you one on one how to really make this social media thing work.
In writing this book, I’ve spoken to Aussie business owners like you and been asked a heap of real questions about social media in their businesses.
When it comes to social media, many small business owners tell me they know they should do it, but they just don’t get around to it. I’ve translated that to mean one of a few things:
•Everyone else has told them it’s important, but they haven't experienced that 'almighty importance' for themselves.
•It is too confusing trying to keep up.
•It just doesn't seem to be worth the effort because they don’t see it achieving anything.
•They feel like they’re wasting their time fumbling in the dark. If someone could just tell them what they actually needed to do, they’d be fine.
•They don’t understand how social media actually fits into their current way of doing business – rather than just being another extra thing to do.
•They just want someone to take care of it for them, and get on with running the business.
Can you relate to any of these?
This book is not just another book about how great social media is and all the things you should be doing (but have no idea how to do). It is not here to make your life harder. Who needs that? Instead, it is my hope that by the end of this book you’ll have everything you need to get (back?) online with enthusiasm and a real plan for achievable success.

Hi, Thanks for coming to find out a bit more about me. I write a range of different books, but what they all have in common is that I like to write books that matter. What that means to me is that in some way, my books make a difference for people. MOTHERHOOD BOOKS Mikaela Robertson is a full-time mother, a writer, and the creator of the online community, Modern Day Mamas. She lives in the picturesque Coffs Harbour region of Australia. Before having a baby, Mikaela was a freelance writer and Marketing Consultant, helping small businesses and non-profits. During that time, she published the book Social Media Marketing for Australian Small Businesses. She dreamed of being a stay-at-home mum and working from home. Little did she know... Motherhood was so different to what she’d imagined. Every day brought Mikaela new challenges and unexpected blessings. Her passion for marketing began to change, but she still wanted to help people. Mikaela completed numerous courses relating to new mothers and their babies, and began to document her own experiences too. She sought community with other like-minded mothers, who were trying to grow personally and achieve their goals while also trying to be the best mums they could be. Mikaela launched Modern Day Mamas in the beginning of 2017, and has since been focusing on empowering, inspiring and equipping other new mums like herself. BUSINESS AND NON-FICTION BOOKS Outside of motherhood, Mikaela is an independent Marketing and Public Relations Consultant and a Freelance Writer. She has helped Aussie small business owners get real results for their businesses. She has worked with small-medium businesses, entrepreneurs and freelancers, well-known large multinational corporations and even not-for-profits, specialising in marketing, communications and public relations.

About the Author
Introduction
A few years ago, small businesses had heard about this Facebook thing the big businesses were doing, and everyone was telling them to jump on board. This book began back then as an introduction to social media – what is it, how it works, and how you should get started. It answered the questions someone starting out would have.
In 2016, however, most – if not all – small business owners I talk to have already got a Facebook page. They’ve already tried adding a blog to their website. They signed up to Google Plus, Twitter and Pinterest and then forgot about them. They didn’t see more sales, they didn’t get much interaction on their posts, and so they began to log on less and less. They had high hopes, and then gradually lost interest as their business continued as it always had done, without social media.
Only, customers didn’t forget about social media. The online world has kept evolving and growing.
While many small businesses have given up on social media, they don’t really want to. They’ve just lost motivation and interest. Many business owners tell me they know they should do it, but they just don’t get around to it. I’ve translated that to mean one of a few things:
Everyone else has told them it’s important, but they don’t believe it themselves because they haven’t experienced social media’s ‘almighty importance’.
It is too confusing trying to keep up.
It just didn’t seem to be worth the effort because they don’t see it achieving anything.
They feel like they’re wasting their time fumbling in the dark. If someone could just tell them what they actually need to do, they’d be happy.
They don’t understand how social media actually fits into their current way of doing business – rather than just being another extra thing to do.
They just want someone to take care of it for them, and get on with running the business.
