    Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt, born in 1960 and a fellow of philosophy, is one of the world’s most read French authors. He lives in Brussels and began his career as a playwright with Don Juan on Trial (1991), a variation on the myth of Don Juan, and The Visitor, a play in which Freud is visited by an enigmatic man who claims to be God himself. While continuing to write for the theater, Schmitt also wrote novels (The Alternative Hypothesis, 2001), short stories (The Most Beautiful Book in the World, 2006) and autofiction (My Life with Mozart, 2005). Recently, he got behind the camera and adapted two of his works for the big screen, including Oscar and the
