    Chapter One

You’re a very beautiful woman Cally, I’ve never met anyone so gorgeous before, Ethan said, blue eyes full of life, smiling at Cally. Cally looked away from his intense gaze, bowing her head.

Thank you, Ethan, Cally said, face flush with happiness.

Ethan and Cally were at Edgar’s, the large roadhouse restaurant, each devouring a big, juicy hamburger. He took his burger back into his hands, eyes fixed upon Cally when a large slice of lettuce fell from the hamburger onto the plate, and Ethan laughed.

See what you do to me - not even my burger can resist you, Ethan said, as Cally giggled.

I could say the same about you, Cally said, as Ethan threw her a cheeky grin.

A waitress in a white uniform came around at this time, watching Ethan with grave reservations.

Is there anything else you need? she said, her blue eyes foisted coldly upon Ethan.

Nah, it’s fine, I think. Want anything else Cally? Ethan said, turning to her.

No thanks, Ethan, Cally said, enjoying the last piece of her burger, as did Ethan. The waitress had her arms folded in front of her, and glowered at Ethan. Ignoring her, Ethan grabbed the napkin, wiping his mouth, then cleaned his hands with the moist serviette. Opening his wallet, Ethan took out a crisp fifty dollar note.

Keep the change, Ethan said, as the woman took the note from his hands sharply, and moved away like a block of ice. Cally noticed her behavior towards Ethan, viewing her until she went to check on some other customers.

Do you know her or something? Cally asked.

Ethan shrugged his shoulders, and puffed his lips.

Never seen her before in my life…must be a weirdo or something, Ethan said, eyes shining brightly at Cally. Dipping his hand into his jacket pocket, Ethan took out his cell phone, and smiled at Cally. Let’s take a photo of us here together, Ethan said, placing his finger on the button. Ready…set…cheese! Ethan chuckled, pressing the button, and showed the screen to Cally as they checked out the image. Great stuff, we look so good together.

I agree, Cally said, as she presented her cell phone. Let me take one of us too.

Sure thing sweetie pie, Ethan said, as he played up to the camera, puckering his lips, as did Cally.

Smile please, Cally said, as she took a photo, the couple quickly inspecting her handiwork.

Brilliant shot, we’re like two peas in a pod, Ethan said, giving Cally a look of lust, to which she responded with a shy smile.

The waitress walked back behind the roadhouse kitchen, and observed Ethan, eyes frosty. She slammed her hands on the stainless steel serving table, as Edgar the cook came around close to her.

    What is it Lisa?

Lisa grunted, looking in Ethan’s direction with contempt.

    He’s back again, Lisa said.

You don’t mean? Edgar said, arranging the apron around his neck.

Yes, Lisa said coldly, as Edgar joined her in scrutinizing Ethan and Cally. Every time he comes back to the restaurant, it’s always with a different young woman. I don’t know how he gets away with it, Lisa sighed. I feel so sorry for the women who fall in love with him; they come back here and ask where he is, and I can’t say anything, as I don’t know when he’ll next strike.

Edgar groaned, and shook his head.

I wouldn’t worry, people like that generally get what they deserve in the end - it’s just the way things are, Edgar said, as he and Lisa viewed Ethan and Cally joking together, stroking her on the chin.

So sweetie pie, ready to go? Ethan said, pushing his plate away from him, as did Cally.

Sure are. Thanks for the meal.

Anytime, Ethan said, arising from the red leather banquette, straightening his jacket, followed by Cally. Once they were out the roadhouse’s door, Lisa sauntered to the shop’s wide clear windows, and stared at Ethan as he moved into the car with Cally. Cally turned around in the car seat noticing Lisa’s conduct towards Ethan, and frowned.

It’s that woman again, Cally said. I don’t want to come back here again, she’s weird.

Ethan turned around, and flashed a smile at Lisa.

"Forget about her, the only thing going for her is her nuttiness, Ethan said, raising his eyebrow. Let’s go."

Cally continued to look at Lisa, before she turned around.

Let’s get out of here, Cally said, as Ethan nodded, putting on their seatbelts, before driving away in his sports car, the gravelly road spewing up pebbles and rocks as they raced away. Ethan turned up the music in the car, and he squealed in delight, singing along with the tracks, as Cally watched him, mesmerized.

He was the first man Cally had ever met who took her breath away. Ethan’s baby faced looks and easy manner caught her eye from the day he purchased her flowers at the florist. He bought her a wonderful bouquet which she brought to the home she shared with older sister Andrea, but did not tell her that Ethan had gifted them to her. Cally had had a number of great times with Ethan over the past few days, and it seemed as if life was on the upswing for her after some dead-end relationships. Cally noticed that he was taking her onto some quiet country roads, and shook her head.

    Where are we going, Ethan?

Ethan stopped the car in what appeared to be the middle of nowhere; it seemed as if there was no one for miles anywhere. No houses, no people, no animals, nothing, just an expanse of lush green grass. He turned to Cally, and blew her a big kiss from his hand.

I’ll treat you to an adventure you’ll never forget, rose petal, Ethan said, as he pressed the button on the car’s sunroof, which slowly opened up. Cally looked at him in confusion, but he smirked at her. Stand up on the seat, hold onto the top of the car, and enjoy the view, Ethan said, sliding a cover over the seat, as she did as he said. As soon as she was upright, Ethan started the car, and spun it around repeatedly.

Ethan! Cally exclaimed, as she was exposed to a view of the mountains from afar, the beautiful blue hue of the sky, complete with several white clouds. Ethan continued to move the car in a circular motion, laughing and giggling in unison with Cally, who carefully held onto the roof of the car.

Had enough cherry blossom? Ethan said, awaiting her next words.

Yes, please stop, I’m getting dizzy! Cally said, eyes enlarging.

Anything for you, Cally, Ethan said, as he stopped the car, as Cally sighed her enjoyment. She was about to descend the seat, but Ethan caressed her leg, which sent a current of electricity through her body.

No, I’m coming up now, Ethan said, placing a cover on his seat, and standing next to Cally. They watched each other in warm silence, and Ethan brushed Cally’s cheek, his touch feather-soft.

Oh Ethan, you know how to have fun! Cally said, as she hugged him, the collective heat of their bodies providing them a buffer against the wind which was beginning to pick up. After a minute, Ethan pulled away from Cally, and moved a strand of blond hair out of her eyes, as she shyly looked down.

Well, that’s what life’s all about; without any fun, we become miserable and, nobodies, Ethan said, as Cally nodded.

Yes, I agree, Cally said, as Ethan grinned at her. Ethan shuffled on the spot, placing his hands in his jacket pocket, giving Cally a heated stare.

I have another surprise for you - I’m sure you’ll love this too, Ethan said.

    "I’m sure I
