Play dates
If there is one thing I find irreparably irksome, it is the cancellation of play dates. Here I am, looking forward to these dates with all my heart, for a week; a whole week. That’s seven days, mind you. Seven days of longing and yearning and then this puppy gets her heart broken!
Last Saturday was exactly such a day. A day best forgotten, but how could I forget if I still had more than half the day left to live through?
I would not be seeing Joe, Wally, Pearl or Ben. Though they would not have known yet, I would not be seeing my four brothers either.
Daddy had left the day before for a trip across the country, to meet with his clients. I had not known about that until he was about to leave. He had picked me up, placed me on his lap and told me. He always did that, whether it was a quick trip downstairs, when he left for work or, as was the case now, if he was going out of town.
I had spent the whole day moping, as I always wanted my Daddy and Mommy around. When I slept, I would want both of them with me. I always snuggled between both of them. That way, if it suddenly started raining in the middle of the night, I would have the protection of both my Daddy and my Mommy.
That night, I could not sleep at all. Granted, I am nocturnal in nature, but I do enjoy a good night’s sleep, as would anyone else. I could not rest because Daddy wasn’t with us. That,
