Chapter 1 - Now Hear This

I think the best thing for you to do is take his offer; he’s offering you the house, the car, shared custody of Alessandra and $5 million plus $250,000 every month in child support. I thought about it for a long while, I want sole custody of our daughter. I said.

He said if you get sole custody then you don’t get the house or the money and child support will only be $100,000.

What? How could he do that? Gerald knows my business is not enough to live off and I won’t have enough to live somewhere else just like that. I don’t want too much change in her life."

I will make sure he knows how you feel. My lawyer said.

Well do your best. I said as I got up to leave. I had to get Alessandra from school.

Hi mommy! I love the way she says that every time she sees me.

Hey baby doll, how was your day? I asked her as I drove away from the school.

It was okay. I learned how to write in cursive. She said excitedly. We kept small conversation all the way back home. I suddenly felt the urge to go to the shopping mall; I felt like that a lot lately. I figured I would have to top soon since I was living off of Gerald’s money for a long time but it was the only way I could feel better about myself. Sometimes I shopped just for myself but sometimes I got stuff for Alessandra too.

Do you want to go to the mall? I asked her. I didn’t want to take her if she didn’t want to go.

Do you have homework? I added.

No, today is Friday mommy, and yes I want to go. She was so cute.

Okay go change out of your uniform. I told her. We walked into the house together. She went to her room to change her clothes while I went in the kitchen to ponder. I stopped in my tracks as soon as I came across the threshold.

What are you doing here? I said sternly. Gerald was sitting at the counter looking at papers.

    It’s my house. He said.

Fine. Do what you want. I figured now was a good time to bring up what happened with my lawyer today.

So what’s this about you trying to take the house if I get sole custody?

Nia, I won’t let you take my daughter from me. He replied.

Gerald, I don’t want her going through too much change.

Then we’ll have shared custody and you’ll keep the house. It’s simple. I looked at him sternly.

What if I gave you $10 million long with child support and the house? I thought about it or a while. I had to do what was best for Alessandra.
