About this ebook

Ferran MacLane lives alone in the mountains, where no one visits, no one travels, and no one is around to fear him. And he is content to live that way. Until one winter night, a beautiful witch knocks on his door, claiming she has dreamt of them together. Despite his determination to oust her from his home, the witch stays, and shows Ferran that he doesn't have to be alone anymore.

Snow fell heavy outside Ferran MacLane's cottage. It hadn't let up for two days and two nights now, so that it was nearly level with the bottom of the window he was currently staring out of. Of course, he'd had to go out regularly the first day, trek a path to the wood pile and the vegetable shed so he wouldn't freeze or starve if he was snowed in. And he had been.

As far as he was concerned, that was a benefit of living up in the mountains rather than a hindrance. Few people made the trip this deep into his forest in good weather, even less in the winter, and none when the snow fall was as abundant as it had been this season.

He appreciated such things, as he was a man who liked his solitude. Being different from other people was difficult, but it was even more so when the other people knew you were different and couldn't accept you in spite of it.

In looks, they were similar, he knew. He had chestnut-brown hair he'd let grow
