I made my way down the aisles of the kitschy gift shop, smiling as I remembered the first time I was there. I'd been a quirky pre-teen desperately wanting to believe in aliens, who felt at home for the first time ever among all the knick-knacks and postcards. The little town of Roswell presented a place for me to embrace the joy in believing we're not alone.

It gave me more than that, though, because on that trip so many years ago, between the glittery snow globes and the shelf of postcards, I'd met my very own alien.
