About this ebook
Ewan and Tora are Arth warriors, protecting their clan against others that want to control it. Each is in love with the other, but misunderstandings on each side prevent them from telling each other. But when another woman in the clan decides she wants Ewan for herself, can Tora be as brave as she is in battle, and claim the man she loves? Will Ewan confess his feelings, or let Tora slip away?

The Arth clan of Divina had no king, no queen, no duke, earl, or lord. They had no reigning party to make all the decisions, to feed and house and clothe them.
Their most recent leader, a cruel man named Kur, had considered himself a king, and had been evil with his ruling. Though he had kept his clan close- everyone living within the confines of his castle- he had demanded everyone do his bidding at all hours of the day and night, and gave them very little time for themselves.
When Kur had died some decades ago, wifeless and childless, he had left the Arth to decide on their own who would lead them. They had agreed as one that they would have no leader.
Now they were a clan that treasured individuals for their unique talents, and they utilized those talents whenever possible. Those who liked to cook did so, for a group of one hundred. Those who liked to sew made everyone’s clothes. Those who had an affinity for healing provided treatment for the ill. Those who sang or played an instrument provided entertainment during festivals and balls. Those who preferred to clean- and there were a fair few- divided the work of keeping a castle that housed so many amongst themselves, so it was never too difficult a task.
The structure worked well for them, and everyone felt needed and important so there was no reason to fight or argue over anything.
There were other clans- some near, some far- that saw the near-perfect arrangement and emulated the Arth when possible, a few overthrowing their own leaders for the chance to be equals. There were still others who didn’t understand how a clan could function so peacefully without a ruler, or couldn’t overthrow their ‘king’, and so begrudged the Arth their happiness. These clans tried to dominate the Arth, to give them the ruler they thought they needed.
Luckily for the Arth, there were those among them who liked to fight. They were warriors, and were the closest thing to leaders the Arth had. Though they held no more power or position than anyone else in the clan, they were highly respected due to their skill and willingness to battle to protect their friends and loved ones.
The warrior leader, Ewan, was a mountain of a man. His hair was black as pitch and fell straight to the middle of his back; his eyes were sky blue, his features sharp and masculine. His shoulders were wider than any tree in the forest, his muscles honed to solid perfection, his skill with a sword unequalled. Though everyone in the clan had a say in everything, it was undeniable that all gave Ewan’s word more weight than others.
There were eleven warriors under Ewan’s leadership, including his best friend Danior, and the only female warrior to ever exist among the Arth, Tora, whose looks matched Ewan’s in coloring, though her body and face were beautiful and unmistakably feminine rather than bulky and sharply defined.
Everyone had been surprised when at the age of ten, rather than turning to cooking or sewing as most of the Arth females did, Tora decided she wanted to be trained as a warrior. Her request was determined to be the cause of only having male friends- In the year she’d been born, she’d been the only female child brought into the world. But because they were a clan of equal opportunities for all, she’d been given her chance to fight.
Many were surprised when it became clear that she had a natural gift. She was fast, clever, and stealthy when she needed to be. She bested all the boys she trained with, except Ewan, but that was expected as it was glaringly obvious that Ewan would be a large man when he grew.
Still, she was the second best, and had been Ewan’s choice for second-in-command when he had become the warrior leader. It was no less than the clan had figured would happen, for the two- along with Danior- had been inseparable all through their childhood and adolescent years, right up until the day Ewan took over for his father, Eoghan, who had decided to step down as warrior leader to spend more time with his wife and their younger children after serving his clan for twenty-five years.
For five years, they fought
