About this ebook

This is all a terrible idea, I know that, but you know what else is terrible? Tsunamis, and there’s no stopping them either. For a moment neither of us says anything, his eyes lock onto mine and they are hungry. He takes a step towards me and I don’t move.

Sophia Salas isn't easily cowed, she speaks her mind and she almost never does what she’s told. Maybe that's why rich and powerful Nate Lowell seems to have it out for her from the moment she joins his law firm, but when the firm takes on a controversial new case, Sophia seems to be the only one making headway on the murder trial of handsome and mysterious Emmanuel Ibanez. As the case moves forward it grows darker and more troubling and Sophia is finding that resisting the powerful attraction between her and her dominating boss, is becoming less and less of an option.

This over ten thousand word story involves some very adult situations, a powerful billionaire, a dark conspiracy and an explosive collision between the two people most wrapped up in it.

    Chapter One

    Lowell, Picton Burgess and Lowell

I step into the elevator and smooth out the front of my black pencil skirt for about the zillionth time. I check yet again to make sure I haven’t spilled coffee on my blue chenille blouse. Usually I wouldn’t even bother to notice the lagoon of food stains covering the front of my clothing, but today I have to be especially careful, because today is my first day at Lowell, Picton, Burgess and Lowell.

How I got the job at all is pretty much beyond me, but whatever the random fluke of luck that landed me an associate position at one of the top law firms in all of southern California, I’m determined not to fuck it up. More importantly I’m determined not to fuck it up in front of my insanely sexy new coworker. Well all right, Nate Lowell isn’t exactly my coworker, but it’s not like he’s head of the firm or anything. His dad is. In fact, if it weren’t for his father being one of the firm’s founding partners, he could’ve been right there, applying along side me, as opposed to being the one doing the interviewing.

The interview itself was mortifying. I somehow slept through the three alarms I had set for myself. When I did wake up, half an hour before I had to be on the thirtieth floor of the big, impressive looking office building in the dead center of downtown Los Angeles, I found that the pink chiffon top I usually wore with my only pantsuit (a gorgeous tan, tailored affair with silk lapels that Kelly, my roommate/best friend since we were six, bought me when I graduated law school) somehow had a massive stain covering most of the right boob. As per usual all my other clothes were dirty, so I ran into Kelly’s room and grabbed the first thing I saw, a pale green, long sleeved, collared, silk shirt. Green is a good color for me anyway, it contrasts nicely with my caramel hued skin and brings out the gold in my honey colored eyes, perfect.

When I got to the interview an entire twenty minutes late, the secretary let me in immediately. She gave me a dirty look and told me in a nasally voice that I was late (as though I could possibly have been unaware of that fact) and I found myself sitting before the impeccably dressed, unreasonably handsome, Nate Parker.

He lifted his piercing blue gaze up from my resume and when our eyes met, my breath caught in my throat. I had never seen someone with eyes that blue, not in real life at least. Actually, his whole face looked at though it had been sculpted out
