    THE COOL AIR SLOWLY grows warmer as the day begins. I use the sleeve of my tunic to wipe sweat off my brow before straightening my straw hat. I look up and see my hard work laid before me: three fields plowed, two of which are sown with carrots and potatoes, ready to start growing. The ditches that run through the fields make sure all the blocks get their share of water, increasing their growth rate.

    Beyond the fields is the border dividing the civilized fields from the wilderness. The Frenrir Forest stretches for leagues, but beyond that is the Henrich Kingdom. I have some memories of living there as a child, but then there was a war and my mother brought me here where it is safe.

    I'm quickly drawn back to the present as a crow caws at me from its perch on the field's scarecrow. It looks at me with eyes like coal.

    Hey, I didn't see you there, little bird. You startled me, I say with a light chuckle.

    The creature turns its head slightly, then pecks into the scarecrow's outstretched arms and rips out straw. It looks at me, cricks its head again, and flies off, leaving me feeling somewhat uneasy. Crows have always been an omen of bad luck.

    Hours before, I began turning the fields with my plow. Before me lies the last plot, just waiting to be sown with seeds. I turn and look back toward our small village. Tenby was formed only a few years ago by the refugees of the Kingdom, after the Henrich
