In book two of Wildfires: Keeley has only one thing on her mind—surviving her training as a Hotshot firefighter and showing those who told her she would never make anything out of her life, how wrong they were.
Gage, Trick, and Skye have Keeley in their sights and nothing is going to stop them from claiming what is theirs. Unfortunately, Keeley doesn’t agree.
Now faced with a life and death situation—will Keeley finally realize she is not on her own? When she puts herself right in the path of the firebug who started the mess, and the fire rages out of control around them, the men struggle with the knowledge they may not get to her in time—a loss they are unwilling to accept.

    Dedication

I had to think about this for a long time, as I didn’t want to forget anyone who has helped me along the way. My family of course has been the most supportive, and to them I say I love you.

I have two wonderful women whom I have thanked more times than I can count, but seriously, they are amazing people who deserve the praise. Michelle and Caroline.

These past few months have been rough, so many things have changed that some days I don’t even know which way is up. I hope the fans enjoy the book, and from here on out, Rayne O’Gara will be co-authoring with me.

    Prologue

A flash fire is a sudden, intense fire caused by the ignition of a mixture of air and a dispersed flammable substance such as a solid, flammable, or combustible liquid, or a flammable gas.

Keely had read all of the books, seen all of the videos, but had never experienced anything like this. She had been with her team; they were looking for the person who belonged to the SUV they found by a cabin none of them knew was out here. The fire was getting close and they needed to move.

Keely, Liam said to her left and she turned.

He was pointing to the large grouping of rocks and she could see a jacket lying on the ground. Damn hikers, she thought. Even when she worked in Cali, they always were finding dumbass hikers who thought it would be cool to go and take pictures of a wildfire and then sell them.

They moved to where the jacket was and she turned to look around. There was no one in the immediate vicinity, which meant they had gotten hot, taken off their jacket, and kept moving. The problem with that was, the only direction that wasn’t in flames was behind them, and the hiker wasn’t there. That was the way to the cabin.

Gaige came to her other side and he said, Come on, Remi and the others found a full propane tank. We need to leave, if it blows we are gonna be caught with nowhere to go.

Shit, Liam said and looked back. The fumes and the liquid will be like a fucking bomb.

Come on, Gaige said as they moved quickly toward the clearing where the cabin was situated.

Before they could make it, the rest of the team and Remi were running toward them. Remi had the radio in his hand and he was yelling. Liam pulled her to a stop and then grabbed her, throwing her back toward the way they came.

Keely stumbled but she knew she had to hold it together. The guys were all moving and she wasn’t going to get in the way. She ran back to the rocks, they could maybe get some cover there as the tank blew.

She could hear the roar of the fire; it had somehow shifted and moved closer. Damn it, it had hopped while they had been looking for the idiot hiker.

Here, one of the guys yelled and they moved toward the voice. There was a grouping of huge rocks, taller than a house, and one of the guys had found a small opening in between two of them. They ran, they had their tanks and masks, if the fire flashed over them they would be fine as long as they weren’t close to the actual flames.

They reached the crevice and Remi put the radio back up to his mouth and began to report in. Everyone pulled their flame retardant blanket out and began to squeeze in. There was a small opening in the middle of all the rocks, and they moved to take a spot. Not everyone was in when they heard it.

Keely looked at the faces of everyone who was in the small opening and then she turned and screamed, REMI!

    Chapter One

    Three days before…

Their training had gone off without a hitch, Keely thought and looked around the room and the people she had been teamed with. Truthfully, when she tried out for the Hotshots a few months ago, she didn’t think she would be picked. Mostly because when people look at her, they see blond hair, blue eyes, a big chest, and no brains. She was so glad she had dyed her hair auburn, it had at least saved her some jokes. The guys had stopped a few weeks ago with the ribbing when she had shown up for breakfast with a different hair color.

Keely was a Smoke Jumper Medic; usually her ass was right on the Helio with Jez, who was the pilot. They had already trained for weeks, even though she’d not been able to work with Jez directly. This was because they had different jobs. Her and the men assigned to the Helio all had different jobs. She was a medic as well as a towline rescue operator. They had their own sites for training; her and several others claimed the tower. This was where they practiced lowering the basket for rescue, as well as working on their trauma training while having only a small area to work in. Making a mistake could cost lives, especially if equipment wasn’t right where you expected it to be. Many times the medic didn’t have time to search for things, they just had to react, and that is what she was good at.

The others that trained in the tower were the jumpers, the men who jumped out of the Helios into the line of the fire and worked to fight it back from the path it was on, changing its course to where they wanted it to go. Right now, she had the day off, it was cherished by all of the team. When they had time to get out of the intense training and seclusion that came with being on a team, all of them took it. There should be four other people off today, the rest were on twelve-hour shifts.

She looked for her only friend, Jez, who was cooking. It was Keely’s chore, but since she had already almost started a fire in the kitchen, Jez had taken over for her. She really needed to take a cooking class, or at least figure out the number for an awesome delivery service who would bring meals when it was her turn to cook.

Jez and Keely were the only females who made it through the training, so they were bunking together. Thankfully, they got along just fine, but they were still learning each other, and Keely wasn’t one to be quiet when she was annoyed, and that’s what she was at the moment. Fucking men were just pissing her off, three in particular. Jez had already caught the eye of three of the leaders of the team, and she was happy for her. The sad part was that Keely wanted what her friend was finding—true love.

Keely smiled, knowing that after their
