Bio

His mind corrupted by childhood exposure to horror movie matinees, but equally enthralled by the atmosphere of old churches, Simon Pole writes cosmic poetry from the location of Vancouver, British Columbia. A graduate of Harvard University, Simon has continued his studies of what is hidden in the dark. Writing is also in his blood, being the great-great-grandson of early Canadian poet Susie Drury.

    Siegel's Census - Simon Pole

In my room of screen, lens and crunching coils,

    circuits too of fiendish intensity,

the design of remote electric labs,

where, without breaks, squint-eyed scientists toil,

    peering into elongated ends of

    reamed-out microscopes, and this producing,

this room, in which I sit positioned.

Copious the coffee which I imbibe,

to here sit throughout the hours, and watch,

and read, thus interpreting, the record

of acts, the planning of acts, and results,

what happens, when afterwards, with slow care,

the pieces, like shards of divination,

are sorted, in piles tagged, and here heated

until secrets they disclose, like a gas,

or some unknown solid which we unpack,

inside the lab, later to be assigned,

in this Census, their proper, lasting place.

My name is Siegel, Adolphus Siegel,

    Director of the Population Count

in all districts of Terminal City.

For fifteen years, and fifteen years once
