Body Image Beautiful - Sophia Langley
Introduction
Are you unhappy with the person you see when you look in the mirror? How we feel about ourselves is the result of a complicated set of social cues, and often our own misperception of how we think other people view ourselves. The good news is that our body image is the result of our own feelings, and therefore is something that is within our grasp to change. And we should endeavor to do just that – no one deserves to live unhappily because of negative feelings they harbor about themselves.
The term body image refers to how you think, feel, and react to your own self-perceived physical attributes. People who accept the way they look and feel good about their bodies have a positive body image. Even though their appearance might not match their family’s ideals or the ideals in the media, they have learned to be proud of the way they look.
You don’t have to talk yourself into loving things you don’t love. People with a positive body image have a realistic perception of their bodies and know that their body is not the same as someone else’s, but they accept, appreciate, and even love the differences.
You do not have to be thin or tall or have any other specific physical traits to have a positive body image. It does not matter what you look like from the outside. Having a positive body image is about how you feel about the way you look. If you are not one, you know people like this. They may be too fat or too short or have stringy hair and yet, they are confident and assured.
People with a positive body image understand that how they look does not determine their self-worth and that physical appearance says very little about our character or value as a person. You do not have to change one thing about your physical appearance to change your body image. You do need to learn to value yourself right where you are. You need to learn to have a proper perspective about the importance of physical beauty and where it fits into your life as a whole.
Even if you have some goals about improving your physical self, you can have a positive body image. Having a positive body image will help you to accomplish those physical appearance aspirations without letting them control you. With a positive body image, you will accomplish your goals more readily and be happier along the way.
Do You Have a Negative Body Image?
A negative body image can involve a distorted perception of size or shape and feelings of shame, awkwardness, and anxiety about the body. People with a negative body image tend to feel that their size or shape is a sign of personal failure, and that it is a very important indicator of worth. Poor body
