    About The Author

    Foreword

How frequently do you repeat to yourself the well-worn adage, Listen to your head and not your heart, only to learn that you anatomically misdirected yourself? If your answer was accompanied by a self- conscious admission, be encouraged, because HeartMath® Institute’s team of researchers, including Rollin McCraty, PhD, have turned that counsel upside down. Research in the new discipline of neurocardiology, they have proven, shows that the heart is a sensory organ and a sophisticated centre for receiving and processing information. The nervous system within the heart enables it to learn, remember, and make functional decisions independent of the brain’s cerebral cortex.

The precious book you hold in your hands is a doorway into the love, beauty, wisdom, intuition, and organic knowing flowing in and through your heart, influencing every contact you make in both the inner and outer realms, with both the tangible and ineffable aspects of existence. It is far beyond mere words when we announce, I mean this with my whole heart; I love you from the bottom of my heart; My heart told me so; We talked heart-to-heart.

On these pages you will find factual evidence that supports the hearts organic knowing, the guidance it directly transmits to you in a continual, energetic stream. So the question then becomes, how do we tap into the heart and consciously open ourselves to receive its priceless guidance?

As Gaia wisely shares directly from her personal experience, there are 3 unfoldment’s, as she calls them, that attune us to the heart’s signals that radiate their energy into our emotions and body, guiding us into specific choices, actions, and inaction when appropriate. We amplify our ability to listen through the inner ear of our heart’s intuition by quieting the mind chatter that creates tremendous static, like a yapping coyote that just won’t shut up. In my own life, I’ve had effective results from a daily practice of meditation, reflection, and spiritual study, all of which bestow equanimity by quieting the mental static, thereby making it possible to more deeply listen, hear, align myself and put into action the guidance emanating from the heart.

If I could give you any grace, it would be to wholeheartedly accept Gaia’s personal invitation to you to reclaim your divine inheritance of joy, peace, passion, creativity, contentment, and so much more that is available to you through attuning to the intuitive intelligence of your very own heart. Through her own personal journey and the practices she offers, In My Heart I Know gifts you with ways to awaken to your enlightened nature, which is the birth right of every human being. Take her words to heart and let them guide and bless your path.

I wish to offer my deepest, most sincere, heartfelt gratitude to the following individuals, without each of whom this book could not have been birthed.

I will hold you in my heart for eternity...

My children, Bethany and Campbell, you are the reason why I never give up. You are my oxygen, my little heartbeats, and the greatest loves of my life. You have enabled me to feel a love I never thought possible and I am so very proud of you both. Always trust in your own heart.

My husband Barry, you are my best friend, forever by my side, loving and encouraging me, reminding me who I am when I forget. Your belief in me gives me courage more than you could ever know.

The spirit of my big brother, Mike, who from the other side guides me on my journey and gives me the strength to overcome any obstacle, I shall miss you always.

Mother Earth and Father sky, for all that you bring, for your astounding beauty that forever amazes and inspires me upon my many journeys with you, for watching over me and grounding me firmly in trust, and for always gifting me with your wisdom and strength until I am reminded of my own, my humble gratitude.

My soul sisters and brothers of the Earth who are rising beside me, supporting, connecting, and celebrating with me and my victories. I see you!

Anita Rehker, my Earth angel, for your beautiful open heart, your kindness, and your great belief in myself and my message. I couldn’t have hoped for someone more wonderful to have assisted me in editing sections of this book. I feel truly honoured to have connected with you upon this journey.

Baptiste De Pape, through your own vision of creating ‘The Power of the Heart’ movie and book you inspired me profoundly in the creation of ‘In My Heart I Know’. Thank you for the conversations and the encouragement you have given me upon my own journey, reminding me to forever stay true to my heart, always.

Rollin McCraty, you are a true example of what living from the heart really means, and from the moment we connected you have shown this abundantly. Thank you for your contribution and allowing me to share some of the incredible science of the heart that has been the result of your years of research.

Michael Bernard Beckwith, through your beautiful teachings you have inspired and awakened my own heart in so many ways along my journey, I couldn’t have wished for someone more qualified to write the foreword for this book.

    Introduction

I want to share with you a beautiful secret that is re-emerging in our world, an ancient one which has always been among us, yearning to bring more compassion, kindness, freedom, love, and peace, but is too often pushed aside due to greed and fulfilling the ego. The beauty of this secret is that it is not outside of us; it pulsates within every one of us, patiently waiting for us to become aware of its presence so that it may guide us on a passionate journey to our life’s purpose and expressing it in its fullest, creative beauty. But first, I’d like to place before your heart this question:

‘Have you always felt, somewhere deep inside, quiet and still, where words just don’t seem to flow and where thoughts are nowhere to be heard, that there burns this great inner wisdom, inner guidance, and inner intelligence that just seems to know things the mind cannot quite comprehend?’

My heart meets your own in the awareness of that sacred space. It is, in fact, where we meet the collective heart of all sentient beings, of all existence. And of course, this leads to additional questions. When was the last time you were advised to put mind over matter, to overcome your challenge with positive thinking? The key word here being thinking. I’m taking the liberty here of responding on your behalf, that you have been given that well-meaning counsel countless times throughout your life, for we have all been raised on the societal conditioning that working with the mind is the means to a life of achievement, fulfilment. But what if this alone hasn’t worked? What if there was another way? What if we have been taught to follow the wrong thing our entire life?

Of course our minds are capable of great practicality of purpose, evolving as it has over millions of years for acquiring and storing knowledge, processing and conveying important information, organizing, and more – but, if we stay ‘in the mind’ for too long we can lose our unique authenticity, stay stuck in our story, and (at times) be consumed with false truths.

Throughout human history the mind has designed incredible monuments, wonders of the world in fact. But from where does the initial spark of inspiration arise? When we read the autobiographies or biographies of composers, architects, poets, artists, inventors, scientists, and other visionaries from throughout the world, they all seem to repeat the same mantras:

It just came to me, I just knew I had to act on it or I have no ‘idea’ where that came from!

This inspired inner knowing and action is what true living in alignment with oneself is, which is communicated into our conscious to and through the heart. You see, as miraculous as the human mind can be, it is not the home of the authentic self, the light of truth, nor genuine confidence for working with the inevitable challenges we all face as human beings.

In a spirit of self-disclosure, on those occasions when I tried to follow only the mind, think positively, or come from the head, it never really worked, nor lasted. It was always my mind which tried to talk me out of things, telling me you’re no good, you’ll never be good enough, who do you think you are? To name but a few.

Evolving into the woman I am today hasn’t resulted from listening to the mind; rather, it came from finally listening, hearing, and responding to that deep inner whisper of a Voiceless Voice that speaks from the depths of Self-knowingness, our Home of Homes, even when my mind was saying something else!

A quote I’ve always treasured is composed of these words by the Marquis de Vauvenargues,

All of the greatest thoughts first come from the heart.

    The truth
