So, explain how this happened again? Charlie gave the doctor a plaintiff look.

Well, the doctor pushed her glasses up her nose with one finger and gave a little sigh, there's a point where the human body isn't really worth saving anymore; there's just too many things broken. These days, it's safer and more efficient to just put the brain in stasis and bring in a new body. We clone one up special for you. Usually, they're better than the original.

I'd hardly say this is better. Charlie gathered up the mounds of flesh beneath the hospital gown in two hands as if presenting them as evidence. It didn't have these before! And I'm missing at least one important bit of myself! How the heck do you people accidentally make me a woman?

The doctor flinched at the accusation. I'd like to point out that everything done at this facility was done correctly. It was the outside company that handles the cloned bodies that has made the error.

I don't really care who it was. What are you doing to fix it!?

Everything we can. A new body is in the process of being created, but these have to be done as a special order. It will take several weeks.

Charlie flopped back against the bed pillows and groaned. I'm going to have to wait here for weeks?

Well, you will have to wait, but it won't be here.

One dark eyebrow arched at the doctor. What?

You're perfectly healthy, even if you are less than happy with your current gender. Hospital rooms are in high demand; you're going to be discharged today.

Oh, fuck. This is just great.

In fact, to that matter, you should probably start getting ready to leave. Your paperwork will be done soon.

What am I supposed to do while I'm stuck as a woman?

The doctor's ire finally peeked through her stony exterior. I think you'll find that being a woman is not at arduous as you imagine. Your body will be ready in three or four weeks. Now get some clothes on and get the hell out of my hospital!

After the doctor had stormed out, Charlie stared into the mirror for several minutes before tearing off the hospital gown and looking down at the body that was the result of this mistake. Sighing heavily, she realized that, for the next few week at least, she could not honestly call herself a man. She felt silly, but it was time to embrace this as best she could.

It wasn't really a bad body, she thought to herself. If she'd seen somebody else in it, she'd probably have been very appreciative. It was strange being shorter than she was used to, and she was already worried that she'd spend a lot of time banging these wide hips and ass on things without intending to. Having breasts was an entirely new experience; they felt strangely heavy on her chest and she was unused to the sensation of having extra mass there. Still, this wasn't her body, and the face that looked back from the mirror, while it looked a bit like her, just wasn't hers.

She should be glad really, she reasoned. At any other time of history, the car accident that had landed her in this predicament would have killed her, paralyzed her, or left her with months or years of rehabilitation. Here she was, already back on her feet after only a few weeks, and to her it felt like the very next day.

Her clothes had been ruined in the accident, and with no family local, nobody had brought any of her own from home to leave the hospital in. She mused that, of course, probably nothing she owned would really fit her current body. Someone had scrounged up something better than a hospital gown. The clothes must have been from a lost and found or a donation bin, but at least they fit. She found herself wearing a t-shirt that had been hand printed with a logo that read Meat City on it, a pair of pants far more form fitting than she'd have wished, and some sandals that were surprisingly comfortable.

So, suitably adorned, she headed out to face the world as a woman.

After her paperwork was signed, Charlie realized that she hadn't any idea how she was going to get home. Of course, her car was totaled. She didn't even know where it had been dragged off to. To make matters worse, she didn't have cash or credit cards, didn't even have her ID. That had all been in her wallet, which had apparently been lost along with her clothes. So there went her chance at a cab or even the bus.

Her cell phone had, by some miracle, managed to make it through everything in working condition, although she really wished somebody had cleaned all the blood off before returning it to her. She'd always lamented not being able to afford a fancier phone, but one thing those awesome new phones couldn't do was survive a fiery wreck, being soaked in gore, and two weeks in an evidence drawer, then come out the other side with enough battery charge to make some calls.
