Growing up as children of Asian immigrants, Katherine and I were both aware of the disparity between the current American culture we grew up in and the culture that our parents were brought up in. In Katherine’s case, she felt it even more clearly as an immigrant herself, coming to America from Korea when she was eight. Inspired by Humans of New York, we decided to interview other Asian immigrants in order to gain a deeper understand of an infinitesimal fraction of the multifaceted backgrounds of the immigrants that make up the melting pot of America. What we found were tales that were equal parts inspiring and enlightening as we gained insight on people we had casually known before, but now truly understood.
