About this ebook

This book tells the story of two colleagues, ‘Luke’ and ‘Andrew’ and contrasts two very different approaches to the same stressful situation that led to quite different outcomes. The story is told simply so that anyone actually experiencing stress might find it both fun and helpful - rather than heavy going. The author then uses her experience as a counsellor and human resources consultant to draw out, and describe, many principles about how stress is created and how it is best managed.
There are also some exercises included in the book so that readers develop personal ways to find their right balance of pressure/non pressure in their life and to learn better ways of managing stressful situations.
It is a fun easy to read book - packed with helpful ideas.

    About the author

    Prologue

This book tells the story of ‘Luke’ and ‘Andrew’ and contrasts two approaches to the same stressful situation that led to quite different outcomes. The story is, as you will see, very oversimplified. However, on many occasions I did observe very similar things happen! In such occurrences, I recognised some helpful lessons and I hope that you do too.

I intended this book to be an easy read so that anyone actually experiencing stress might find it both fun and helpful - rather than heavy going.

There are also some exercises included in the book that might help readers develop personal ways to find their right balance of pressure/non pressure in their life and to learn better ways of managing stressful situations. I do believe that life can be lived with increased ease and less destructive dis-ease. I certainly wish this for all of us.

    Chapter 1: The ‘players’

Once upon a time there were two colleagues, Andrew and Luke, who had a good idea. They put their idea to the CEO who received it without much enthusiasm and who even criticised it on the grounds that it was too costly and time consuming. The two men dealt very differently with the CEO’s reaction.

    Luke’s response to the situation

Luke said, ‘That’s typical – they don’t know what’s good for them!’.

He grumbled to all and sundry during the day about ‘them’ and went out for a long and (in his view) completely justified lunch with plenty of ‘liquid refreshment’.

‘After all,’ he said to himself, ‘what’s the point of working hard when they don’t even listen to you?’.

He got back to work around 3 p.m. – just in time for a badly needed
